Apparently it's a case of supply and demand. A Russian SKS is just harder to find. The Chinese version of the gun is far more available, and the Yugos also appear more plentiful than their demand vis-a-vis the Russian variant. This has been my experience at both local gun shows and online. I did manage to talk a guy down to $300 on a beautiful Russian SKS recently, but only by my willingness to pay the same for a Norinco. Admittedly, the Norinco was in as beautiful condition as it could have been, and I won't bitch about $600 for two rifles, given my love for the SKS. While I have two Yugos, I keep them as a novelty and have not used them. I did give one as a Christmas gift. I figure that the gas diverter is just one more piece that could go wrong, so my everyday SKS is Chinese.
