SKS Stripper Clips

Just for the heck of it, I bought an SKS Norinco with a Tapco folder stock and a 30 round steel duck bill mag, from my neighbor.
At the last gun show I bought ammo, a Tapco 20 round duck bill poly mag and stripper clips.
The problem is that I can't get a full 10 round strip to load in either mag without hanging up, much less a second strip.
Never had this problem with my M1 carbine.
Is there a secret to loading these?

I ask because I don't know; Are these large capacity mags designed to fully load from stripper clips? I know that when I had an SKS, My five round and ten round factory mags accepted stripper clip loading but the ten did start to drag a bit. I lighty lubed my rounds with a teflon lube and that helped a bit. :)

Be Safe !!!

Did I say modified the mags?
If the the stripper clips worked fine, I wouldn't need to modify the mags.
The Tapco 20 round was as straight out of the package. I don't know if the 30round that came with the rifle was modified or not.
Both mags take 7 rounds and stops solid.
I can pull the stripper and hand load the last three.
After pulling the stripper, I did notice that the top of the first 7 rounds seem to be out of line in the mags.

I had a Norinco SKS many moons ago. The stripper clips worked fine with the original 10 round fixed / hinged magazine. When I converted it over to 30 round detachable mags, the stripper clips were no longer usable.

Thanks ------
That's about what I figured.
M1 Carbine mags and others seem to go in straighter.

I believe I'll just buy a couple more Tapco 20 round mags and hand load what I can't stuff in with the stripper clips. The stripper clips are probably just for the stock SKS non-removable mags. I'm sure I'll run in to somebody at the range that will have one and I'll try it.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I had an AK47, Romanian, for a while and it seemed like sheet metal junk that you can't tear up. The SKS is solid steel like a conventional rifle but a lot harder to disassemble and reassemble.
Much harder for "peasants" to work on.
With my AK, I pressed one button and the whole thing about fell apart.

For the maintenance reason, or the lack of need of, and full-auto seems to me is the reason that the SKS was replaced.
The SKS is much more accurate though.

I had the same issue when I changed to the high cap. mags. The stripper clips worked well with the stock 10 rd mag but I couldn't get more than 5 off of the stripper into a 30rd mag to save my life.

The reason most go to higher capacity mags is to NOT have to use the stripper clips.

FWIW, the Tapco 20's are the most reliable of the higher capacity replacement magazines.

I used one a a 20-rounders as a fixed magazine and filed enough off the back of the feed lips that it matched the profile of the 10-round OEM mag. Strippers worked fine in the gun.

I have since upgraded to the Romanian 'sheet metal junk' and am more than satisfied with it.

Aftermarket mags for the sks are just garbage. edit- At least the ones I have had the ocassion to examine. If you find one that you like, great. I have no intention of using them.

Hm, if I can find a stock 10 round mag, I'll try to match the dimensions for the 20 round Tapco.

Actually, my wife wanted the "Romanian sheet metal junk" AK. She shot it a few times and then shouldered an M1 carbine. There went the AK.
My wife is very small, also with arthritis, so she can handle the carbine better.
We're on fixed income, so for something new, something else has to go.
My son-in-law got mad when I traded the AK. I told him to buy his own toys. Ha!

The SKS is mine.

I appreciate the replies and help.

Geez some of you guys need to get up to date before spewing out misinformation. The Tapco 20s have been around for five years now and as long as you follow the simple instructions on expanding the magwell on a wood stock (or no mods if using a T6), those mags are good to go, period.

Somebody didn't read the original Thread as usual.
I've got a Tapco collapsible stock. As far as I can see there is no wood to take off.
We're getting off to another Thread.
