SKS stripper clip issue.

With the SKS all things can be hit and miss. I like to keep mine stock. Yet, I noticed some stripper clips are more forgiving that others. I have owned over five SKS rifles in the last decade and usually, I load them buy hand, but with the stripper clips I notice some are very stiff. Even when they feel no different than other ones. I thought about pressing some of them out, but I am not trying to tear anything up.

Any advice on stripper clips and how to get stubborn ones to work more smoothly?

I bought stripper clips for an SKS a year or two ago. The ones I got seemed to load better from one end so I scraped one end and maked it with white nail polish so when I need to shoot using strippers i just orient the strippers correctly.

I've found that lubing will free up the clips and make them easier to feed from, also makes it easier for some rounds to strip off in your pocket too. kind of a double edged sword.

I have a technique which works well for me, I apply pressure to load a cartridge, release pressure then apply pressure over and over again until all cartridges are loaded. This works well once you develop the rhythm which is fast and easy to do. Another thing that helps is attitude, I consider the SKS to be a rather crude rifle by American standards but is very reliable, accept it for what it is.

A close inspection of the SKS will show that the areas which matter(bearing surfaces) have good machining while non bearing surfaces tend to have a lot of tooling marks.

what I'm saying is compare it to other designs of the time like the AR47 or the mosin nagant and the SKS, for who was manufacturing it, was really, very well made in comparison. milled parts instead of stamped, as you said polished where it counts, etc.

So light lubrication should help. The only thing I was worried about is getting any lubrication on the ammo, since it could attract dirt. But I guess a little bit wouldn't hurt to much.

I wouldnt lube them, and for the obvious reasons, as well as the fact that all of my 100 or so SKS strippers, had a problem retaining the rounds, as opposed to not letting them go.

I rarely got 10 rounds in the gun from a stripper, since if some hadnt already fallen off in the pouches, they dropped to the ground on the way to the gun.

Only ever used 7.62NATO charger clips, but even those can have wonky springs. Keeping 'em clean helps. The spring can be adjusted a bit with pressure to bend 'em a tick, but not much.
The things are something that was never intended to be reused, so they're not really well made by anybody.

For the record I realized I made a mistake. I thought I posted this in the semi-auto rifle forum, but accidentally posted it in the bolt, and lever gun forum. In Homer Simpson voice. "Doh!".

Then of course one wishes to keep this thumbnail trimmed right short, else peel it back while mashing the last cartridge into the magazine.

That smarts.
