SKS shooters - accuracy between 123gr and 154gr

I have found that the 123gr HP's are MUCH more accurate than 154gr soft points in my Yugo SKS. In fact, I got so much bullet drop with the 154gr soft points at 400 yards I found it extremely difficult to hit at that range with them.

My sense is that the sights on the SKS and possibly even the barrel twist was made for the lighter 123gr stuff.
