SKS RIFLE

I wouldnt scope it...

It can be fired as accurately without a scope as with one. For me at least.

It just isnt acccurate enough to benefit from a scope.

The best scope mount IMHO would be one that fastens to the left side of the receiver [drilled & tapped] to hold the scope. Some like the mount by DC Engineering, but it is expen$ive (www.dcengineering.com I believe).

What I did and think is the best, was to drill & tap a Weaver mount to the receiver cover. This keeps it low to the bore -- see the picture:

To make sure the receiver cover doesn't move when the action cycles, I epoxy bedded the receiver cover mounting block -- see this picture:

.

By all means DO NOT ever use a Buffer Tech-type recoil buffer that mounts inside the receiver cover. The "H" style is superior (see http://www.sksparts.com) -- only the receiver was designed to handle the impact from the action - not the receiver cover. The rec-cover pin was NOT designed to handle the impact from the bolt carrier ... don't be fooled by the slick ads ...!

I vote NOT TO SCOPE unless you put one of those scope mounts that mount on the rear sight. I have gone threw 3 different scope mounts and they all didn't hold up very long.

If you want to scope it, definitely consider mounting the scope directly to the reciever. Either that or mount it up front "scout" style with a red dot or LER type scope.

The reciever cover mounts, although relatively inexpensive, most often provide a sloppy fit. This can be enough to throw your shots off target.
