SKS recoil spring

OK, this is more than embarrassing, but I'll ask the question because I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I haven't shot my Russian SKS in quite awhile. I took it apart to clean it tonight, but couldn't remember which way the recoil spring goes back in.

Does the curly end go into the bolt carrier first, or the straight end?

BTW, is there a smiley for embarrassment?

Ok, it's been awhile, but I THINK that the curly end goes into the bolt carrier first.

The flat end bears against the retainer plate.

And yes, there is an embarassed smilie...

:o

Curly versus straight? I dunno what you mean. But there is a C shaped retaining clip in the rod. That end goes in first toward the carrier. The O shaped end goes against the dust cover.

TACTICALDUDE,

Thanks for the link! After looking at the photos, I did put it back together right.

Kilgor,

Sorry for my use of terms regarding the recoil spring. I just shoot and clean 'em, I don't work on 'em. But, if you look at the spring, one end coils like a snake, while the other end is straight.

Thanks again. :)
