SKS problem

Took out my yugo sks today and had a big problem. The gun fired ok but after every couple of rounds the latch that secures the gas valve was coming up. I would lock it back down and verify no movement in the gas valve and it continured to come loose. Is this a common problem?

Maybe rotate it out of position and try to bend it to hold in the notch? Not a gunsmith, just thinking that piece is held by tension in a detent. Recoil perhaps is knocking it loose?

Here's something that might work: Rotate the latch forward so that is it unsupported, remove the gas tube, then gently tap it with a plastic or brass hammer to bend it inward slightly. This will give it a little more tension against the sight base and the retaining dimple. If that doesn't work, get a new latch.
