SKS jaming

Took out the SKS for the first time in a while. It jamed twice in about 200 rounds. It fired, ejected, and the loading round would get pinched between the chamber and bolt(vertically). Any ideas?

Stock magazine configuration*

I think more importantly, Was it cleaned and oiled? if it was your first time out and it has been sitting for 50 years, that may be why.

I mean I didnt use it for a year or two. It was cleaned and lubed lightly. Fist time it was the last round, second time it was mid mag. I dont know where to look with this gun

Rifle is in complete stock configuration. Never had this issue previously. Only addition was the firing pin spring upgrade.

Is your trigger group properly installed? A lot of people take them out to clean the rifle but don't seat them properly upon re-install...

It may also be the ammo. I know sks's are supposed to be super reliable, but 2 out of 200 rounds isn't exactly cause for alarm. Thats a 1% fail rate (yes i did the math myself:) ) which means what ever it is, it probably isn't the gun having a real problem.

If it's a Yugo, I'd check the gas valve... that has caused more SKS issues than anything short of cheap Promag detachables. If it isn't a Yugo, I'd still have a good hard look at the gas system. There aren't that many failure points with these, if it's not ejecting properly I'd anticipate it not getting as much gas as it should be getting.

I'm guessing ammo issues, too. My SKS only liked certain types of the milsurp ammo. Even the ones that it liked it did jam occassionally.

Try some silver or golden bear ammo. Since i switched over to it I have yet to have a failure of any kind. And my Norinco runs great with it.

The gas piston gets filthy so it might be wise to just clean it out. It sounds like it could be an ammunition issue. A light round might not cycle that heavy bolt. If neither of those are the issue, I would make sure the spring in the mag is okay.

I've only shot the Russian stuff out of my Yugo and it runs fine. No problems for me.

Similar Issue

KX592 - Having the same issue with mine right now actually. Check the spring in the magazine. Give it a little push and see if it has a weak resistance. Also, have you had any issues when you go to lock the bolt carrier back for a reload? If yes, that's a very good indicator your spring is getting weak because it puts pressure on a small rectangular metal piece called the hold open latch. If it was only 2 out of several hundred rounds it could be hard to say if it was the mag. Did you keep it loaded while in storage? My issue is like 1 out of every 20-30 rounds and I have problems with the bolt carrier locking back.
