Well, it's a Norinco, but I can't tell you any years of manufacturing..

I don't know what the "Poly" stands for, but I know there was a company called Poly-Tech that sold AK47's back in the 80's. I think they called them the "Legend". They were generally thought to be good quality arms. I don't know if they sold any SKS's or not, but if they did, they probably would have stamped their company name on them.

My Norinco has been a solid, pretty accurate shooter... I've had it for over 20 years now.

edit: go Google "polytech SKS" and you will come up with a LOT of links and info about them.

I googled what you said, Poly-tech did make sks's from what i read, but i did see a pic of what there stamp looked like, on a sks, and it said poly-tech in big lettering, while mine just says poly, and it supper small. So is it chinese?Sorry for my ignorence.

Yes, it is Chinese. NORINCO is short for NORth INdustries COmpany, the Chinese business who sells firearms manufactured by several factories scattered around northern China.

If you can. Post a picture of the markings on the left side of the receiver. That will provide information about the factory which built your rifle.

sorry but i have no camera. But whats weird is that there is no chinese marking on mine and after the "poly tech" tip/info i did some reaserch and the poly sks's i saw online say the exact same thing as mine but have a symbol aswell.??????

The "poly" is the importer mark. That SKS wasn't made in the US, it was made in China by Norinco, then imported by Poly Technologies of Atlanta, GA.

There's isn't a whole lot else to say; it's a Chinese SKS. It sounds like it isn't one of the ones made to accept AK mags from the get-go, so it's basically just another Chinese SKS.

A perfectly good gun; not particularly historically interesting unless you're a SKS collector, so go forth shoot it, and enjoy yourself.

Is the "symbol" a triangle/rectangle/oval/diamond with a stylized number inside it? If so, that identifies the factory.

From the serial number you posted above, I'd guess it is a late production commercial model. It is still a robust rifle and will provide years of good service.
