sks fixed 20 round mag

Pre-ban I bought a norinco sks and chinese extended fixed 20 round magazine, greased it all back up and stored it.

I did note that it would only hold 19+1. 20 could be loaded but could not hold top round down far enough to let bolt close on empty chamber. Is this normal or do I need to adjust bottom of follower or something else so it will take 20?

What is feed reliability like? Is there a significant reduction in reliability or not enough to worry about.

Thanks.

That behavior is normal for both 10 and 20 rd SKS rifles...and one thing that bugged me out it and my .303 (both stripper-clip fed). I used to load nine in the SKS and keep the chamber empty. With the .303 (rimmed round) that isn't possible, so I store it with the magazine full and the bolt open. I think the 9+1 makes sense for a combat weapon, where you'd want it to load with minimum of effort...but for my non-military taste it is less flexible than deteachable magazine AK.

Thanks for the info, cornered rat, makes sense.

OTOH, still wondering about reliability w/ the fx 20's. If it comes to that, the fixed mags still look slightly more politically correct, and back in the pre ban days you could about buy 3 SKS's and 3 20 round fx mags for price of one AK or AK mag fed SKS.
Would hate to ever have a gun stolen again, but better that than not have one in the vehicle when needed.
