I am looking at a Composite Romanian SKS - its in NIB like condition and was wondering if anyone has an opinion of them

How do they match up to Russians models? Chinese? Am I losing something getting it from a composite instead of wood?

Also, how much should I look to pay. The guy selling it wants about $300 - seems a bit high to me, but I've never seen one like this, so I don't know.

Checked the web for info, can't seem to find any.

Thanks a bunch

Yeah, that sounds a bit high to me as well.

Both my SKS rifles are Chi-com, but I've heard some fine things about the Romanian made SKS rifles. I know their barrels are threaded to the receiver as opposed to pinned as both my SKSs are. Also, if memory serves me right, I do believe all parts on Romanian models are milled.

I don't think you'll be missing much by going synthetic over wood unless you want it for collection/nostalgia.

If I were in the market for an SKS and wished it with a synthetic stock, I'd pick up a Shotgun News or GunList and order a Romanian SKS in NRA "Very Good" condition with cracked wooden stock. These usually can be picked up for $90-$130.
Then buy an Advanced Technologies, Bell&Carlson or Ramline synthetic stock for another $45-$60 and there you go.

$300.00 is way too high. A local dealer is selling the Romanians, fitted with a fiberforce stock for $200.00.

If you like the look of the standard stock, you can find replacement wood, or another option is one of the red "jungle stocks", which can be painted to the color of your choice if you don't like the earth red look.

Way too much for one. Take a look in the shotgun news and check the current prices. Then add $25.00 for a FFL fee plus ten for shipping and offer the dealer that price. I wouldn't pay much more than $200-$225 for one.

They even have deals in the SGN where they are selling the cracked wooden stock SKS's with a fiberforce stock included for you to install for under $200.

You can get a Romanian AK47 in either 7.62 or 5.45 for that price.

Good Shooting

I purchased a red Fiberglass jungle stock, repainted and refinished with a urethane coat for durability. It worked excellent and has a nice, tight fit to it. My recommendation.
