Just purchased a Russian SKS,unfired, perfect condition..This is my first SKS and was wondering what kind of ammo I should feed this rifle. Is the steel cased Sellier & Bellot a good choice? I am open to any and many suggestions,as I would like to keep this rifle in as good condition as possible..Caliber 7.62 x 39, Thanks..PJ

My favorite is the Soviet made WOLF AMMO in 7.62x39. It is made well and I have never had a failure of any kind. However, I do not recommend that you use their .223 stuff.

Sellier and Bellot 7.62 is just as good as the Wolf but usually costs a little more down here in my area.

I have tried some of the surplus ammo for my SKS and have had lots of DUDS. I suggest that you stick to "current production" ammo.

Take Care

I have two SKS! Just picked up 1000rds for around $95.00. If it says 7.62X39 its going DOWN-RANGE. Shoot the CHEAPEST stuff you can find!!!It will feed enything! Great shootin rifle! Jeff

Most 7.62x39 is good and even the corrosive stuff it you can find it anymore is fine so long as you clean your guns. I'd suggest you buy a box or two of brass hunting type ammo to check your accuracy potential. I was floored by two inch groups out of my Chinese SKS when I tried handloads in it. Guess I found the right load the first time. This was at 100 yards with open sights and ME shooting it. (yes, in a rest though)
