Skeet AND protection???

I have always been a semi-automatic handgun fan, but I have toyed with the idea of adding a shotgun to my collection.

Being fairly frugal, I was wondering if there was a shotgun I could buy that could be used both for home protection AND skeet shooting.

Now, bear this in mind...

My primary interest is in self-defense. I have no interest in taking the skeet shooting to any competitive level. I just wanted to have fun and see if I could actually hit something! :D

Could you use a self-defense type shotgun at the skeet range?
Would this work? Would everyone have one big laugh? :p

Mossberg persuader. Or mossberg 590.

I love these guns, I shoot skeet competetively (i'm 15, so not too competetively) and I went to the 2005 national youth skeet shooting competition in Detroit.

What gun did I use? A mossberg persuader with an 18.5" barrel. Got some odd looks, but nothing negative. They seem to think it's really funny until they see what you can do with it.

I started shooting with a full size pump, and then for grins, I borrowed my uncle's 590 and I did really well with it. I shot my first perfect round with that gun too.

A couple things about shooting skeet with a riot gun are the fact that they swing really fast, and the short barrel makes leads a bit odd, but once you get used to it, it's no problem.

I also think it's just plain fun to shoot skeet with a riot gun.

So yes, get a defense gun (I like mossbergs, but remingtons and winchesters are excellent as well) and take it skeet shooting, 'cause they work and are a blast to shoot.

I shoot 3 gun, skeet and use it for HD.

Lots of skeet titles won with the 1100.........easily modified as well.

Yes. You might not make the skeet HOF with it, but there's nothing out there that will jump you up the learning curve like shooting fast, multiple targets.
