Size of the Taurus Raging Bull

I never had a chance to see a Taurus Raging Bull :o . I know that this is kinda silly question, but how big is the gun compared to say Ruger GP100 or S&W 686?

Obviously I have an idea by from looking at pictures, but I was a bit surprised it the past how much off I was when I tried that with other guns. :p

Does anyone have a picture of the gun with a Ruger or S&W?

ps: I'm interesting in 6.5 in model

The frame is bigger, but the grip frame is smaller. This allows a "squishier", fat grip to be installed, which helps absorb recoil. The "window" part of the frame (where the cylinder sits) is thicker in all dimensions. It's pretty beefy in size, but it is not very much heavier than other guns of slightly smaller dimensions.

One thing I'm not real thrilled with about it is the dual manual cylinder lock system they use. To open the cylinder you have to unlatch it at the back and the front at the same time, using your thumbs, then swing out the cylinder by pushing with your fingers. There will be no quick reloads with a Raging Bull.

The other thing I don't like about it is Taurus's penchant for putting a BILLBOARD on the side of their newer guns. I know it's a Raging Bull. I don't need this in 1" tall, modern font, etched-in and darkened letters. (They do the same thing to their Tracker and several semi-auto models.) At least it's not the legal disclaimer/owners manual that Ruger rollmarks on, but it's still obnoxious. It makes it look like a cartoon gun.

what sam said....but I'll add that if you are looking at .454, the rugers come in a little cheaper and are better guns in my book. Though I admit the porting on the Taurus makes it feel.....well.....extremely manageable.

The Raging Bull is HUGE.

Compared to the GP100 and 686 it is night and day. Both are on the larger side of medium framed revolvers. The Raging Bull is large even for a large framed revolver. It has to be, in addition to .41mag and .44mag which don't need the size (it is bigger than a S&W N-frame) it is also chambered in .454, .480Ruger and as of later this year .500S&W. Of course, if you want .41mag or .44mag they also have the opposite extreme- they make both in the Taurus Tracker (maybe a tad smaller, and quite a bit lighter, than the GP100 and 686).

To me, .454, .480 and .500 are too much caliber- I have no need for them and I don't like recoil that much. When I get a Taurus .41mag it will be the Tracker, and if I get a Taurus .44mag it will be the Taurus 44 (S&W N-frame sized .44mag).

Note too that the Trackers are considered "compact frame" guns. Their "large frame" guns are essentially S&W K or N frame size (my 669 is a "K frame", and the M44 is basically an "N frame").

The RB is none of these; it's much bigger than a real S&W N frame. Because of the reduced grip frame it's not too much heavier, though.

I'm not sure about big bore Trackers. Even just holding the gun the back of the trigger gaurd bumps my middle finger. I can imagine that firing a 44mag out of it would not be a pleasant experience. That's why I ordered a 44SS4. Now if it would just come in... (Still shows as "available" on Taurus' web site, but seem to be out of stock at most distributors, and I've been waiting a week.)

Thanks guys :)

I actually like the etching on the barrel, don’t like bunch of small print…

I’m interested in the .44mag version. (.454, .480, and 500S&W are too expensive for me) Oh BTW despite of different calibers they all (guns) still the same in size right?

One more thing is the barrel on the Ragging Bull a lot broader/wider than on the GP100?

Oh yeah if anyone has a comparison picture please post it.

I think the writing down the side of the barrel is sweet. A gun that says Raging Bull down the side of the barrel just looks bad a$$ :D There is a Raging Bull in .480 here at a local shop. Has the long barrel and is $465. I'm seriously thinking about it :)

Top is a GP100, middle a Raging Bull in .41 Magnum and a S&W 686+ on bottom. Sorry for the flash, but it's too dark for natural light and I'm too lazy to set up artificial lights.

The cylinder and frame are the same size as on the .454 version, but the .44 and .41 are six shots instead of five.

Mine has a color case hardened frame with the rest in a nice blue. I call it "The BFR" Revolver. I like the dual cyinder lock as I load those .454 Casul shells up so I can reach out and touch someone at 300-500 yards. I also like the grip and the PC hammer lock, just so I can say I fit into the Age of Medioricty! I knew guns were dangerous 65 years ago. I don't have any little kids around, but I feel good about protecting me from myself! I never have locked it but it's nice to know I can! I just shot it three weeks ago out at the ranch and was again thrilled by the way it shoots. That comp really works.

I got the RB in 44mag with a 6 5/8 inch barrel.

Great gun. Shoots accurately and feels like a pussycat with the hottest of 44 loads.

Don't shoot lead bullets, though. Stick to jacketed ones. Cleaning out the muzzle break isn't easy and lead is a real btch.
