Greetings and salutations:
First post. I am a gun collector. I think Webster defines a gun collector as one who owns a gun but hasn't yet mustered the nerve to go to a range and shoot... yet. Went to the San Diego Shotgun Sports (when it was the Miramar Gun Club) years ago to show my son how... unfortunately he hit the birds, I didn't. Since then have waited the intervening years for revenge. Bought a Spartan (baikal) 310 o/u avec ported barrels, 20 gauge, since the gun I took the first time was 12 gauge and it battered me. Anyhow, it didn't come with trap chokes, skeet or improved modified that's 'posed to be used. Ordered two sets, for some odd reason, one from colonial and a second set from trulock. The question is this... finally... the trulock chokes are probably 3/4 inch longer than the colonial chokes, does the extra length matter. Also the trulocks seem to mimic remington chokes in that they have four thing-a-ma-bobs that enable me to use a remington wrench with the chokes as opposed to two thing-a-ma-bobs as on my mossberg (500A) chokes and the baikal chokes.

The tool for changing the Colonial tubes costs $.25.

Use a quarter coin.

Extended chokes are a new fad. Sometimes they actually help, adding a bit of weight at the muzzle.

Both Colonial and Trulock are good makers. Do some patterning at various distance and see which gives the best results for you and your load of choice.

HTH....

Extended chokes are a new fad.

*ahem*

My esteemed good friend Dave...err...I have used extended knurled chokes since the earth was flat. pesky curmudgeon Steve is posting - Dave grumbles

I chose these because -
1) I didn't want to keep up with a stupid choke wrench
2) If I 'dinged' the muzzle end, I would 'ding' the external knurled choke tube instead of the muzzle of the gun with an internal one.

Well there was that dealie about Nu-Line having more choices in more constrictions and these were steel shot approved...:p

I never cared for or bought into ported chokes.

I would get the chokes that pattern in your gun for tasks and distances best.
Sometimes just 5 thousandths of and inch makes all the difference, the shot won't know if internal or external.

Fad: Well...there was that period in my life where my squad was known for Glow in the dark condoms over our muzzles during tourney's with rain blowing...real easy to tell what field our squad was gonna shoot on...just check out the gun rack...

These worked better than the 6" umbrella's we had been sticking in the muzzles. Real neat flowery patterns, but even waterproofing the paper these were made of didn't let them hold up very well.

Style Points.
Dave that was my reason and I'm sticking with it. :D

Hey - there is an idea! Little 6" umbrella's with BA/UU/R
Mrs. McC will be so thrilled :D
