Six shooters featured in Popular Mechanics

There's a decent article about six guns in the August edition. It's good to see that PM hasn't succumbed to PC.

Two months from now you'll see a flurry of letters to the editor decrying the fact that guns are being featured in a "mechanical" magazine.

Last time it was over the Medusa, a moron wrote in just blasting the article and the editor.

The editor very blandly said that firearms ARE mechanical devices, the same as the other TOOLS that are frequently featured in PM.

Hmmm, I'll have to make it a point to pick up that issue, AND send a letter thanking them for the article. Thanks for the tip.

Cool article! However, what really surprised me (in a good way)was the full page S&W add elsewhere in the magazine.

If the article doesn't get thm some angry letters, the add surely will. Heck, they get all kinds of complaints everytime they show a girl in a boat.

If you like the mag, write 'em and show your support! Even better, buy a copy ths month(instead of borrowing your friend's) and tell them. We need more magazines like this!

I bought a subscription to PM a couple of years ago after seeing several firearm related articles. They typically have some type of gun related article every other month or so, but they tend to be titled, "The guns of LA Swat" or "The weapons of the Navy Seals", etc. I enjoy those pieces greatly, but it is nice to see an article aimed strictly at the civilian market. I think the Mgt. at PM is smart and they know their readership. Hopefully their readership will continue to grow.

Good idea about dropping them a note with some positve feedback, think I'll do that myself.

Popular Mechanics has published weapons/military related articles since it's beginning.

They have always discussed technology innovations in weaponry from small arms to warplanes, tanks, aircraft carriers to star wars/killer satelites.

Glad to hear of it - - -

Many years ago, I found a box of old magazines, including some from during WW-II. Popular Mechanics had one on handloading during the civilian ammunition shortage. Can't recall the exact fugures, but there was a reference to .30'06 ammo costing over TWO DOLLARS a box, when it could be found, but could be reloaded for less than a quarter of that.

There was also a nice article about west coast sportsmen, over- and under-age for military service, being organized to provide militia-like service in case of Japanese landing parties. You know what? Militia wasn't a dirty word back then.

Best,
Johnny
