Thanks to our pal defox for reminding me that I wanted one of those too…
So picked up a NIB semi-compact 9mm (steel version) today, will take to the range tomorrow.
The more I handle this gun, the more I have to say that I’m about to reach the conclusion that this has the best grip ergonomics ever.
The length, angle, extended tail, and surprisingly not-too-wide grip (reason I’ve kept away from double-stacks) seems to fit my hand much better than anything else I own or have shot. Plus the trigger guard is excellent for a two handed grip.
So tonight I just stripped and lube’d it.
Stripping and re-assembly is completely standard and very quick (along the lines of an American style Sig with the exception of having a 1911-style pin rather than a slide release).
Everything pretty much says “quality” here, better than expected for its price range, a nice surprise.
Gun came pretty much clean and ready to go, no true need to do anything.
First thing that stands out is that there are two recoil springs in it, a thinner and shorter one inside the expected one. Next, the barrel is not round on the inside. I guess I knew this but still odd to see a poly shape in there.
Can’t wait to try this one out!
On the down-side, the finish looks like it will wear quickly (just an assumption) and the slide does not have too large of a grab area (although not a problem to rack, just less than I’m used to).
Interesting that the slide can be racked with the safety/decocker ON, which simply returns the hammer home – which at first may seem disconcerting, as in chambering a round and having the hammer fall back down.
But the safety seems pretty confidence-inspiring in terms of carry. Which in turn may account for what appears to be a lighter DA (or maybe its just my imagination).
Ok, that was a long post.
More tomorrow after I shoot it, will post pics as well.
