Thanks to our pal defox for reminding me that I wanted one of those too… ;)

So picked up a NIB semi-compact 9mm (steel version) today, will take to the range tomorrow.

The more I handle this gun, the more I have to say that I’m about to reach the conclusion that this has the best grip ergonomics ever.

The length, angle, extended tail, and surprisingly not-too-wide grip (reason I’ve kept away from double-stacks) seems to fit my hand much better than anything else I own or have shot. Plus the trigger guard is excellent for a two handed grip.

So tonight I just stripped and lube’d it.

Stripping and re-assembly is completely standard and very quick (along the lines of an American style Sig with the exception of having a 1911-style pin rather than a slide release).

Everything pretty much says “quality” here, better than expected for its price range, a nice surprise.

Gun came pretty much clean and ready to go, no true need to do anything.

First thing that stands out is that there are two recoil springs in it, a thinner and shorter one inside the expected one. Next, the barrel is not round on the inside. I guess I knew this but still odd to see a poly shape in there.

Can’t wait to try this one out!

On the down-side, the finish looks like it will wear quickly (just an assumption) and the slide does not have too large of a grab area (although not a problem to rack, just less than I’m used to).

Interesting that the slide can be racked with the safety/decocker ON, which simply returns the hammer home – which at first may seem disconcerting, as in chambering a round and having the hammer fall back down.

But the safety seems pretty confidence-inspiring in terms of carry. Which in turn may account for what appears to be a lighter DA (or maybe its just my imagination).

Ok, that was a long post.

More tomorrow after I shoot it, will post pics as well.

Congrats! There's nothing like bringing home a new toy, taking it apart, cleaning & lubing it for the 1st time and fondle it until you're able to take it shooting.
Have fun!

Ok, back from the range.

This thing is an absolute joy, period. An opinion shared by two range buddies that went with me as well.

Put only about 125 rounds through it, flawless except for 1 FTE (slide caught the empty halfway out).

Everything is right about this gun IMO. Recoil is completely trivial, muzzle drama minimal. Trigger just right.

Minor beef: the mag is pretty tough to load, hoping it will smooth out (or that I'll get stronger) ;)

Well, nothing really more to say other that this gun is amazing, far far better than expected!!

DanP,

Before you go..tell me 2 things:

1. The procedure for striping it down and
2. The number of parts which it contains

Another thing: Guntests.com has an article on it d/d October 2000.

It gave it a best buy over the SW3913 Tactical and the Walther P5.
You can check it out if you don't mind Guntests.

Hi there,

No rush, I never go too far...:D

Lets see, from memory of doing this last night:

* Cock the hammer and rack the slide back about 1/5" until the dots on the slide & frame are aligned, then push the stop pin from the right and slide it straight out from the left (all of this requires very little effort).

* Pull the slide off the frame (a simple linear motion).

* Remove the recoil spring(s) and guide off the slide (again a simple action).

* Remove the barrel from the slide (before it falls off by itself).

Hmm, that should be all, again everything standard. No force or tools required. Reverse steps to reassemble.

So main parts would be frame, slide, stop pin, barrel, recoil guide and spring(s).

Hope that helps, and thanks for the tip on the article, I'll try to find it.

Just a quick update:

Quickly approaching the 1,000 round mark on this gun (should find the time to clean it again too).

But this gun has unexpectedly gone from cute, inexpensive underdog to one of the top ones in my collection.

Just great to shoot, great quality, reliable as can be. Even gets along with the dreaded Wolf ammo.

If it means anything, this is also the first semi-auto I ever tackled hostage/situation target with (always stick to my revos for those).

A fine fine gun IMO.

Got in touch with Magnum Research. They promised to send me a manual; Also said they had some parts and accessories-never gave me any details however.

I found an article- might find it interesting. See attachment.

defox, thanks for the link.

The MR site doesn't show much other than clothing apparel and extra mags (which I'll now be picking from CDNN, apparently :D )

As far as the manual, it is as expected just a totally ordinary pamphlet with the obligatory 20 pages dedicated to warnings (not minimizing them, just saying that they are the generic warnings in most manuals I've seen), with about 3 or so pages dedicated to the cleaning (assembly / re) part.

If there is anything in specific that you are concerned about there is a great chance of getting a correct answer here ;)

Besides that, I just realized that while "bulkier", the BE still fits my Sig 239 holsters, a nice bonus for me.

Keep posting praises guys, I'm getting real close to buying a polymer framed .40 BE for duty/CCW and your starting to make my descision easy.

Allright, one last message here for the few of you that care... :D

Just passed the 1,000 round mark with this gem.

2 FTE's to date, both early and both the quick & easy to clear type (empty brass stuck between slide & barrel).

Abused this gun more than any other of mine:

* Field stripped it NIB out of curiosity, basic oiling, and that was that.

* Fed it S&B (great range ammo but not the very cleanest) AND the dreaded, unthinkable Wolf thing (first gun I have that cycles it!), among others (all factory).

* Embarassingly, recently realized that in my enthusiasm to keep taking this gun to the range I completely neglected to clean, oil, or even wipe a tissue over this poor thing. Not that it cares, apparently.

So, 1,000 rounds with ZERO cleaning, oil, etc. Not proud of my neglect, but proud of this gun!

As an aside, at this moment it is my second most accurate gun, right behind my GP (in the informal scoring games we play at the range).

Anyway, just wanted to wrap at 1k, this is a good gun!
