Sistema Colt and non-gi type mags

Howdy folks,
Recently used my C&R to get a Sistema Colt. LOVE IT! I have a few 7rnders. Are there any recommendations for 8 or more round clips?

As an aside note, anyone else notice the sudden shortage of .45 ACP ammo for sale on the internet.

I have one also. Like it very much. I have found that the Chip McCormick 8 rounders work fine. Have you experienced hammer bite yet?

I have had excellent results from Wilson 47Ds. I replace the bumpers with the smaller metal ones and trash the HUGE plastic ones. Great mags.

The Chip McCormick 8rd power mags work excellent. They are on sale at www.natchezss.com .After replacing the stock trigger though, only Wilsons seem to work.Hammer bite is when the hammer pinches the web of your hand between it and the grip safety. After receiving a nice scar from that, I replaced the hammer with a commander hammer and a drop-in beavertail safety.

Do you find blisters on the web of your thumb after shooting?

Do you feel that your purchases of Band-Aids are keeping Johnson & Johnson in business?

Do you cry when you shake hands after a shooting session?

If the answer to the above is yes, you are experiencing hammer bite.

Seriously, it is the hammer spur hitting the soft flesh behind the grip safety. If the spur is long or the grip safety short, the hammer comes back far enough to hit the skin if one has fleshy hands. People with thinner hands have no problem.

Some people think the hand is pinched between the hammer and the grip safety, but it is actually the hammer itself, in free motion, that causes the damage. If the gun is worked slowly and the hammer stays in contact with the slide, it is hard to see how "bite" happens. But if we realize that the hammer is hit hard enough by the slide to cause it to come back beyond the full cock position the thing makes sense.

In addition to true hammer bite, if the lower edges of the grip safety are a bit rough, it can chew you up. I had that on a brand new Springfield, and was hurting after a session of a few hundred rounds.

My new Sistema has much smoother edges than the Springfield.

Captain, I can relate. Had a Loaded Model SA and know exactly what that sharp safety feels like. FWIW, I think they've started dehorning that. My dealer has a new Mil-Spec in the showcase, sans sharp edges. Slick gun.

I HAVE A SISTEMA COLT. I M FROM ARGENTINA.
IN THIS COUNTRY A SISTEMA COLT COST $200-350 DOLLARS.
IN VERY GOOD CONDITIONS.
THE STANDARTS MAGAZINES WORK WELL. I VE TRIED FIVE IN
MY OWN PISTOL WITHOUT PROBLEMS.
BUT THE ACTION IS VERY HEAVY, AND THE HAMMER BITES, REALLY BITES!!!!
SEND ME YOU COMMENTS:cool: :)

I've been calling the bite from my Sistema a badge of honor. Anybody ever tried the drop in rear sight from Chip? Supposedly it works with the stock front sight. I'm also considering a hammer, sear, and disconnector from chip for mine.

jcbartolomeo, welcome to TFL. Glad to have you aboard. Maybe you can start a new thread and tell us what it's like to be a shooter in Argentina.

As for the hammer bite, a beavertail safety will take care of it, but I have no idea if you can get them there.

They can be had from several sources here in the U.S. Here are several places you can order them online:

http://www.chipmccormickcorp.com/index2.html

i'm sure some other folks can add more. One thing to watch for - some are meant to 'drop in' to the gun without any machining. Some require a bit of cutting and fitting, best done by a competent gunsmith.

I have no idea of the legality of you ordering parts for your gun. You'll have to check that yourself.

BTW, when you post, PLEASE DON'T SHOUT!

;)

After adding a Nowlin trigger job,Chip hammer and trigger the trigger pull is sooo much nicer.I highly recommend the trigger job.It is very easy to install.

Just because no one else has mentioned it yet (which is suprising). 1911's don't take clips. That said, for magazines you can't do better then Wilsons.

bkm...

Spyder2 and anyone else interested in using drop in McCormick sear and hammer...It won't work....The hammer is not compatible with the grip safety..(not enough clearance to fully cock) I know, I tried...The McCormick hammer is designed for a beavertail grip safety....Guess you could machine a groove in the Sistema safety...Way beyond me though....Had to send all back for a refund...Oh well.....

Put in a Wilson drop-in beavertail and you'll solve that problem.:D

KPS, have you actually used a Wilson drop in grip safety?...Did it really just drop in?.....Does it look okay?.....That would really solve my problem....would

THANKS FOR YOUR WELCOME TO THE SITE.
I DON T KNOW HOW TO START A NEW THREAD.
I M GOING TO TELL YOU, FRIENDS HOW IS TO BE A SHOOTER IN ARGENTINA
GOOD NEWS,
THE LAW IS VERY PERMISSIVE. YOU CAN SHOT A GLOCK 17 TIMES, NO CRIME BILL. THE FIREARMS LICENSE COST $130 MORE OR LESS. ONE MONTH OF WAITING. WE CAN BUY ASSAULT RIFLES WHIT A SPECIAL CREDENTIAL.
CARRYING A GUN, IS MORE EXPENSIVE, ONLY VIP, MILITARY AND POLICE.
BAD NEWS
THE COST OF THE FIREARMS IS VERY HIGH, ALSO THE AMMUNITION.
WE CAN RELOAD BUT THE EQUIPMENT COST TWICE.
EXAMPLES
PARA ORDNANCE $1350 DILLON 550$750 DIES LYMAN $80
GLOCKS $900-1200 COLT GOLD CUP $1700
I RECOMMEND DILLON PRECISION TO BUY ON LINE. THEY SENT ME
A WILSON COMBAT BEAVERTAIL THAT NO REQUIRES MODIFICATION
IN THE FRAME FOR MY BELOVED SISTEMA COLT.

CJO:

I bought the Wilson Drop-in beavertail from Brownells but Natches has them for just over brownell's wholesale price.I added a Chip Mccormick trigger and had to do VERY MINOR filing on the beavertail where it meets the trigger bow.Keep in mind that I have never taken apart a 1911 before this Systema. Now it is like second nature.Instructions come with the beavertail on where and how to file if it doesn't work 100% with your trigger.I have not tried it with the stock trigger. If you are that much into the gun I would replace the trigger with a polished one or polish the stock trigger. My stock trigger was blued on the bows and I polished it to make a good backup. You will notice a difference.Good luck and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.
