Anyone have any experience with this Argentine pistol built on Colt tooling. Through CDNN, they're going for around $300 for an arsenal refinish.

Lot's of info about sistema's on the 1911forum. Many seem to consider them the best 1911 for the money.

Great gun.You won't find a better deal on a pre-war commercial Colt 1911.Very durable, no cheap MIM parts like todays 1911's and no firing pin safety. I bought one a few months ago and have stripped it of all parts and built it into a great custom carry gun. Also check out www.roderuscustom.tzo.com/home.htm

Thanks guys, had ordered 1 yesterday as I've heard several people comment on different forums but couldn't find.
KPS- good reading there

I got one from CDNN. It was refinished nicely. Internally it had some problems. Extractor was worn slap out. No hook at all. Replaced the ejector also. Sights were beat up and those got repaced also with some hi visibility sights. Barrel had ALOT of wear so it got repaced with a SA barrel. I got the barrel bushing replaced with a tighter one. Thumb safety needed some attention to get the play out of it. Replaced all springs as they were pretty worn out. Lastly, the mag well had some kind of torgue to it, although it wasn't visable, that prevented any mag from inserting into the mag well except for the one that came with it. My gunsmith was able to fix it. He also cleaned up the trigger for me. Needed reparkerizing after all the work. Now its a shooter and a .45 that I'm proud to own. This was a grade one systema in "excellent" condition. Should have just sent it back. Guess I like to tinker.

I bought a couple of them. I am putting one back as-is in the safe and I am tinkering with the other one to learn 1911's. So far I am well-pleased with the Systemas. Once I finish hanging all the "improvements" off the one that I am modifying, I will let you all know how it shoots. A few comments: The barrels on both my guns look virtually new. I was prepared to change them, but for now at least, I think I'll keep them. Slide to frame fit is unbelievable. The .45's that I carried in my Army days would rattle when you shook 'em. Not these Systemas. I can feel no vertical or side to side play. The trigger pull is straight military -- hard, but usable for a self-defense gun. I have a Nowlin drop-in trigger job kit that I intend to install when I have the time. The accuracy out of the box exceeded my expectations. It actually seemed to shoot quite well indeed with 230 grain FMJ's from Georgia Arms. Sights on the military weapon are military sights -- tiny. You could actually do some fine shooting with them if the trigger were better, but I am replacing them with Kings. Metal work is generally good. The interior surfaces are virtually devoid of tool marks. It appears that the arsenal refinish on the Systema Colts was a bead-blast preparation followed by hot blue. I found some rust starting to form when I removed the mainspring housing on one gun, so I would advise anyone with a Systema to do a detailed strip, clean, and lubricate job soon after getting the gun. Finally, I had forgotten what a real "pleasure" hammer-bite is. If you use a high grip and have paws any bigger than average, you too will develop that bloodblister between your thumb and forefinger. The Wilson safety should take care of that whenever it arrives.
