Sistema 1927 vs. refurbished Colt

After picking a really nice 1991A1 Commander Colt last weekend, I'm again in the market for a full-size 1911. http://www.jldenter.com has some interesting offerings: for $299, I could order an Argentina-made Sistema Colt 1927 (a 1911A1 version) or, for $100 more, an original factory-refinished Colt 1911.

These seem like a good deal, but is the product you actually get as nice as the ones shown or are they in poor/worn out condition? Anyone here with experience ordering from JLD? How tight is the frame-slide finish on these pre-owned models, if you happen to own one? Thanks for your input.

there are several threads on this issue (especially over on the 1911 forum which is down until 1 April). The Sistema and the Hartford 1911A1 "Model 1927" are prewar quality as far as fit and finish. One is as good as the other. For a shooter, you can't beat the price and they are a piece of history.

As far as collectability, I'm no expert but most (near certainly all) are refinished which kills the collector value. The flip side (good news) is that the Argentina arsenal that refinished them did an excellence job of parkerizing them.

I don't think "high gloss" specimens are still available.

If you want a Goverment Model (USGI) to shoot, go for it. You won't be disappointed; if you want a collector pistol, keep looking.

I have one of the $299 Sistema 1927's from JLD (purchased through http://www.cruffler.com), and it's a fine looking gun. Mine is in excellent shape, and the re-park is almost perfect. The Sistema 1927 is a true Colt clone, since they licensed the design and bought their equipment from Colt to make them. If you want a mil-spec style 1911, it's a great deal.
