Side to side play

Can you tell me about how much side to side play (wobble) on a Colt 1991A1 Officer's Model is ok? The gun functions fine but I do have some slight play, I guess about approx. 005" to .010". I'm aware that the model is required to have some play to be able to operate in extreme conditions, but not sure how much is excessive. The gun is just factory, no mods were ever done. Thanks:)

I really think your key words are " pistol works fine"..if that in fact is the case, than don`t worry about it..Lots of folks seem to have trouble with their Officer`s model, mine also works fine, it also has play, would not take it to Camp Perry, but it will put them in a man size target just fine...That`s what it`s made too do..

That sounds like normal Colt fit. If it's working, don't wuck fith it.

Yep, mine is just the way it left the factory..darn thing has always worked, guess it don`t need any custom parts.....

Since the sights, barrel and slide lock up as a unit on the 1911 style pistols, slide to frame slop should have little or no effect on accuracy. Taking out the slop can have negative effect on function tho.

I had a MK IV Series 80 with a slide to frame fit like you describe. The only thing I added to it was a Dwyer Group Gripper. It tightened up that pistol's groups by about 30%. The slide to frame fit didn't make any difference that I could tell.
