Hey guys! :)

ruger_single_seven.jpg

As you know, Ruger has recently started making the seminal Single Seven single action revolver in .327 Federal Magnum. This gun is incredible, and seems to be giving stellar service to those who bought them. I'm in the market for one, and understand they come in three barrel lengths which are: 4.63", 5.5", and 7.5" in length. I'm debating on which barrel length I want, so I figured I'd start this thread to hear what you guys feel about this. Which barrel length did you get for you Single Seven, and why? How do you carry the gun (if applicable), and what do you use it for? This poll and thread is also open to anyone so just choose which bbl length you'd get even if you haven't bought a Single Seven yet.

Thanks guys! Looking forward to your responses and the poll results!

For me, the longer, the better

I voted 7.5" but only because on the SA's, I prefer the longer barrels, for shooting and hunting. I own a couple of Buntlines and really enjoy shooting them. ... ;)

Be Safe !!!

I would buy the 7.5" model. ...Because I already have 4" and 5.5" .327s, and I think the Single Seven would pair well with my 7.5" SBH.

But, if I was recommending a barrel length for another shooter, whom likely doesn't own another .327 Federal, I would suggest the 5.5" barrel. It's a nice compromise, and even 5.5" of barrel is good for impressive muzzle velocities. (My 5.5" Blackhawk has exceeded 1,700 fps with the AE 100 gr SP factory load.)

4-5/8. Balances superbly. Surprisingly accurate. I can't say this is preferable to the others, which I don't own and haven't shot, but I'm quite pleased.

I voted for the 4.63 because of the balance and handling. I carries concealed very well too I might add.

I favor longer barrels in my single actions, so my choice was 5.5". The 7.5" was off the scale for what length I would consider. Double actions are more likely to be carried, so mine are mostly 4" +-. I would note though that in the case of the Single Seven, I believe the 4 5/8 would more likely be good out of the box, since supposedly that length was made last.

I don't have a Single Seven, but I have a Blackhawk with a 6 1/2" barrel, that seems too long. For me anyway. So I voted for 5 1/2".

I bought the long tube to take advantage of the flat shooting .327 cartridge. I like to try and hit things out at 100-125 yards. I also have plenty of shorter barreled guns for open and concealed carry. The long barrel give a very nice sight picture. The 4 5/8" would be a very handy carry gun while hiking, hunting etc.

I have a 5.5" and got a 4.65" for my grand daughter, I much prefer the 5.5" but thats just me. We use them for target practice and plinking, with the occasional small game ability.
