Simmons scope a good deal?

Both Midway and SWFA have a Simmons Whitetail Classic 4-12x44 A/O Matte Granite finish scope on sale for $99. Any experience with the Whitetail? I'm obviously not expecting Leupold or Zeiss quality here, but isn't Simmons generally better than Tasco or Bushnell?

My only experience with Simmons has been a 44 Mag. I'm quite happy with it.

The high-end Tascos have gotten good comments, here. There have been fewer comments about Bushnell, pro or con.

The test for many scopes is whether the point of aim is the same at low power as at high power. After you're sighted in, shoot a three-shot group on low magnification; repeat on high. If you wind up with one group-center, be happy. If you have two distinct groups, you might consider returning it and trying a more expensive scope...But test it the same way.
