Silver pigeon custom advice

Just bought a silver pigeon. Happy with the gun but I've been told that I'm shooting flat. Also the length of pull is a little short. I was thinking of changing out the recoil pad for something thicker that reduces felt recoil. What should I do about the comb? I've been told moleskin will do the job. Other suggestions regarding any of this?

For adjusting the comb, Cabela's sells a kit by Beartooth that has a neoprene sleeve and several foam inserts of different thickness. This can allow you to play with the settings to see what works for you.

Shooting flat is not necessarily a bad thing - except for American Trap, most other clay game shooters prefer a flat shooting gun, especially if they are shooting targets that are dropping.

If you find the thickness that works well for you, you can then always have a stock maker company cut and install an adjustable comb; eventually the foam one will flatten a little with use, while the permanent one will hold that setting until readjusted

Here is a relativley inexpensive solution ...to change the comb angle...with an adhesive comb pad ....

Brownells and other places have them ....

There are a lot of "silver piegon" guns out there ...but I'm assuming you have one of several versions of the Beretta silver piegeon.../ so yes, changing the butt pad ...or going to some kind of a GraCoil system may be helpful to you on adjusting the length of pull ...depends on how much money you want to get invested in this gun.

Be casreful not to damage the finish on your stock. The scope-eze has a warning about that. There is also a product called cheekeze that can be used. I have been thinking of trying it but I have a synthetic stock and supposedly it won't stick on one. I am thinking of trying the Beartooth suggested by oneounce, theone held on by velcro straps. Then again, spome moleskin from WalMart may be a good place to start with the cost of shot.

Patterning is your friend. See if it's shooting where you're looking and both barrels shoot together.

A flat shooter is not bad unless you shoot mostly trap. For a GP shotgun, I like a Point Of Impact about 3" above Point Of Aim at 30 yards. This may work for you or not. Test and find out.

Shooting flat usally refers to the comb of the gun in relation to the barrel and not something that is related to the person.
