Silver Bear?

My specific question relates to the newest products from the Rodina i.e. Russia.

All list Silver Bear 145gr HP

The only site listing any velocity data is the Florida site. Which lists a velocity of a WHOPPING 1200fps.

Anybody ever heard of "Silver Bear" before? I did some searching online and found they made pellets (as in for air rifles). Apparently, they aren't top notch pellets...

The price is pretty darned low. $5.29 for 50. $100 per 1000.

Anyone done any testing, heard of the company before, have an address where I could get more information?

1200fps w/ a 145gr 9mm... despite critics claims is possible I think. I've heard of 1150fps 147gr maybe the Russians figure they can go to a higher pressure with steel cases? Or perhaps they have some magical powder? Or perhaps they like blowing themselves up...

I'd like to keep this discussion wound ballistics argument free if i could, we already debated hot 147's earlier.

I shot some Silver Bear 9mm out of my TZ99. It has a definately stouter recoil than 115gr stuff, but seemed to work fine in the pistol!

I can't comment on the 9x19 stuff, but I have shot the 9x18 Makarov ammo. It's 120gr JHP and it's definitely hotter than the typical 90/95 grain ammo normally encountered. +p loads at a minimum, maybe +p+. The recoil is stout, even for a Mak.

I asked this question in an earlier thread and was told that the ammo was junk and caused multiple jams. I haven't experienced jam one, and it is now my normal carry ammo in my Mak. I have to wonder if the negative comments are from the "I heard from my brother's sister-in-law's husband's cousin" crowd, if you catch my drift.

One thing I have noticed concerning this ammo. It seems to be very dirty. But, at $5.25/ box, I can live with this. I clean after every shooting session anyway.

Ditto on the 9Mak Silver Bear. I shot a box out of my Bulgie last week with no problem whatsoever using a mix of chinese and bulgie magazines. Groups were about the same size as with ball or Barnaul HPs (i.e. 3 - 4 inches at 50 feet).

My friend Bob Chick that runs RSC Wholesale said that one of his other customers chronied it at 950 FPS which would seem a bit hot but not scary.

Until i see some expansion tests with it i will stick to the Barnaul HPs in my Mak, but this stuff looks ok to me. Price sure is nice!
