Silver Bear Makarov ammo...

...Anybody here shoot it? It's a Russian brand, but, what's unusual is it's 120gr JHP's as opposed to the 90/95gr stuff we usually see. Deep, deep hollow hollow point, too! With the weight of this round, it should mushroom well if the need arises. I think I'm going to be carrying this stuff from now on when packing the Mak.

Haven't had a chance to try it. I noted that the same company makes a 145gr 9mm Para round. I also would want to know: Why the non standard bullet weights???

I have been told that the 9Luger JHP made by LVE ('Silver Bear') is real crap. Anyways, where did you get the Silver Bear in 9x18? Maybe it will be better than their 9x19 Silver Bear.

I bought it this past Sunday at the Dallas Gun Show. Guy only had 2 boxes left and at $5.95, I snatched it up. Shot one of the boxes at the range that afternoon and had no problems of any type.

It felt hotter than the normal, $99.00, ($117, TTL), that I usually shoot. +P maybe? The primers and the crimps were sealed. It's non-corrosive. And as I said in my original post, these are deeeeep hollow points. I've never seen JHP's as deep as these. I'd be interested to see how these things deform and what the performance is compared to the normal 90/95gr ammo usually available.

As for being crap, it might be. But, Russian ammo, commie gun. Looks like a match made in Heaven to me.

At one time they tried to improve the 9x18, I
believe it was called the 9x18 ultra or police.
I don't know the gr of the bullet but it was not
to be fired in standard maks.

Hey, I just found out that 'Cheaperthandirt.com' is selling this Silver Bear ammo in 9x18 (along with other calibers.) $5.29 for a box of 50. As of now, they have about 1350 boxes in stock. But, for some reason, it is listed as "FMJ" instead of "JHP." Here is a pic. of the box:

I just bought some and tried it. Turned my Mak into a Jam-o-matic. These rounds will not even load and fit into the magazine properly and I tried several different mags. They appear to be a couple of thousandths too long??? I have used all other types of Russian ammo with absolutely no problems but this stuff is crap. In my opinion it is hotter than Barnaul or Wolf but the bottom line is it would not function at all. I shot other ammo the same day with no problems. I will not buy any more and will stick with Barnaul. Barn.
