Silly question about swivel studs!

Hi guys Rachel here again!

I have yet another question regarding my Mossberg 590A1, this time is regarding the swivel stud, the gun came with a front swivel stud that happens to be very short and despite my best efforts it doesn't go in very tight, do I need to locktite it? or do I need to get an aftermarket swivel stud with a longer screw? any comments? or is it possible that the Mossberg factory swivel stud is fine and im doing something wrong?

thanks in advance guy.

Blue loctite is always fine...
Does it have the locknut? Does it make 2 full turns at least once threaded? It is threading into the barrel locking cap (from the front) or into the actual piece soldered to the barrel (aiming down).

By "doesn't go in very tight" do you mean there isn't enough thread engagement, the threads have a loose fit, or both? As Brent noted, there are two different front stud types on 590A1s depending if magazine tube end is flush with the muzzle or set back.

Thanks guys

Thanks for replying guys, hey zippy13 I also replied on the other site!

Well, I'm not sure, it doesn't feel lose inside, and the threads feels normal I just think it might be that the swivel stud is too short, but here are some pics I just took to show you, maybe that will help.

That's a quarter next to the swivel for size reference.

That is the rear side it the bayonet lug, that's where I would like to mount the swivel stud.

however after screwing the swivel stud all the way in, it takes absolutelly no force to undo it and take it off, my two year old nephew could do it, so I'm wondering how do I attach it so it stays it there firmly.

Thanks again guys for taking the time.

P.S Sorry about the huge pictures I'm still trying to figure out who the best host is.

Obviously, you have a flush style mag 590. Brent's blue Locktite would probably work just fine; however, for your peace of mind, I'd go with the new stud. Otherwise, it will always be gnawing at you, "Is the swivel going to fail at an inopportune moment?" You don't have confidence in the OEM unit, or you wouldn't have posted your question.

Of course, this all assumes you're going to install a sling.

Just out of curiosity, let's wait and see what the folks at the other forum recommend. ;)

Thanks again zippy13!

Okay, so you think I should buy a new stud maybe a with a longer screw?

Thanks again zippy13

If it doesn't make 2 full laps... and if you feel it is "barely" threaded than get a new stud. Zippy is correct about self confidence in your gear.

But if you buy a longer one, keep in mind that it may need trimmed shorter. The shoulder has to be the supporting surface... NOT THE THREADED SHAFT!
Use a nut of proper size and thread count. Put it on and use a dremel or cut off wheel and bevel SLIGHTLY. Use the nut to "chase" the threads. Do this until the shoulder supports the tension. The tiny threaded shaft is not strong enuff to support the swivel.
