I bought a replacement for the aged Pachmeyers on my "Used" Model 10 HB
WHile removing the old set the hann==mmer spring fell out of the frame due to the grip bolt passing forward. (beteeen the spring and frame).
Disaster!
Now to refit the spring, the side plate has to come off whis a job far advanced of my skill level
With all the room to place that screw, why would a major manufacturer make such a gross error for all their "K" and "L" fame guns? There is literally a whole empty spcae with inches to spare for the through bolt to be placed.
Luckilly I know a Smith who said he'd fit the spring for free, just to see hown this error looks! Needless to say I am going to try and get some stock grips to alleviate this problem, besides wood alwways looks best!
I did get some range time with this new revolver and I can see why it has been so popular for ao long! The HB instills confidence to the shooter with it's steading weight and the action cycles like a cap pistol! ( perhaps a former action job?).
The ammo shortage is still plagueing us here in Central Calif. as the dealer who did the paperwork for our transfer of ownership and WP had only one box of Fiocchi "pratice ammo for sale. The price was a reasonable $23 but the avialability concerns still go on.
Like my dear mom used to say, "things always happen for a reason", maybe it is time to drop a little oil on the hammer and trigger parts?
I really like the Model 10 and this downtime has given me time to reflect on my current hang-up on this calibrr and to see that without even thinking, I have been building a small collection of 38's without actually intending to!
I hve the Ruger Vaquero, the Cobra O/U derringer ( a real fun gun with very pratical applications as a good hideout piece!) The Nickled Mode 36 No Dash Chiefs special (What can I say?)A great revolver, and now the Model 10 H/B !
It looks as though I have been replacing the .22 lr pistols as fun, duty and hide-out guns with the ,38 Special. All it took was a crooked Government the real and imminent threat against our second ammendmant rights and common sense preparing for civil unrest! Yea I built up a 19 1/2" HD Shotgun too!
Gee it all started with a worn and crcked set of packmeyer grips...
