Sigs

:D Hello. I just registered for this forum. I carry either the Sig P220 or the P245 depending on my mood. I have several other semi-autos I like. Most notably my Hi-Power, but for business I have to go with Sig. I foind that I shoot better with them and I feel comfortable with them. I read many years ago that one should stick with what one trusts. I trust Sigs. I'm not a deadeye, but I do better with Sig products then any other handgun. Next on my list is the Sig 239 in 9mm - just because.

Good choices.I too carry a sig 220 or a Hi Power.Feel confident with either.Just sold a 245.Didn't like the balance.
Welcome

Since this thread is about Sigs, I have a question. Has anyone ever seen the Sig P6, or know anything about it?????????? What I know is this: It is an 8 round 9mm pistol that was adapted by the W.German Government along with the Walther P5, and the HK-P7M8. Any info will be a help, as I might try to find one!!!

Welcome Jeff #111 from Idaho!
Sig 228 and a Steyr M 40 are my choice. My Sig holds a special place in my heart, German proofed, high cap mags, I'm getting all teary eyed just talking about it. :D

Denfoote,

the P6 is the German Police nomenclature for the SIG P225. It goes by "P6" to fit into the government numbering scheme. P5 is the Walther P5 (obviously), and P7 is the P7PSP (equally obvious.)

The P8 (the new German Armed Forces service pistol) is a slightly modified H&K USP. It differs from the regular USP in that it has a rifled barrel instead of polygonal profile, it has a new see-through magazine (colored like the one on the G36 rifle), and the safety goes "down/safe, up/fire" like the P1 that came before it.

Welcome Jeff 111 from Idaho!!!

Congratulations on having good taste, and for choosing Sig as your main companion piece. I too, carry the old model Sig P220A
.45ACP; or a Sig P228 9m/m, depending on the circumstances.
Both are West German manufactured
and assembled; with the P228 being complete with hi-cap
magazines. These are my favorite DA/SA autoloaders; with the
BHP being my favorite single action only pistol.:D:)

My personal Sig is a 229 in .40. Sweet gun. Slightly heavier than its polymer framed competitors, and the finish is a little more prone to being damaged than others. However, its a great shooter, very reliable, nice to look at, and has a great trigger. Good luck.

Just as an aside here.

I was in one my local gunstores today, and they had a brand-new Sig P225 on the shelf (for $50 MORE than a P228 and $20 LESS than a P239). Being interested in a P225 (I think it has the best grip of any Sig), I had to try it out. The trigger pull, both DA and SA, was terrible--the SA was particularly bad. It was a real disappointment becuase one, I liked the gun, and two, I am used to Sigs having outstanding (maybe the best) trigger pulls. I don't whether this one was just an aberration or whether Sig is trying to "lawyer-proof." Anyway, I came home, and it stayed at the store.

Wow I didn't expect such a response. It's good to see that there are other Sig fans out there. Sometimes it seems that I'm surrounded by 1911s and Glocks. Hooray for Sigs.:D

Anyway thanks for the welcome. I'm a police officer here in Idaho and I carry the 220 as my duty weapon. My department is very liberal and allows us to carry pretty much anything as long as it is in 9mm, 40mm, or 45 and is by a quality maker. They even allow us to carry 1911s! In the Army I worked with both the Beretta and the 228. While I found the 92 to be a good weapon ( I own one ) I found the 228 to be more natural to me. I never looked back.

I used to own several sigs I now only own one a Sig 229 sport in 357 sig. Sigs are fine accurate handguns, but thier high bore axis induces more muzzle flip compared to Glocks also their triggers require you to let all the slack out between shots with the glock you only need to go half the distance before the trigger resetss. Sigs also require a 10 to 12 pound pull of the trigger for the first shot instead of a steady 5 to 6 pounds for every shot with a glock. I used to love the 229 as my carry pieces in the winter and a sig 239 as a summer gun. But now I carry a glock 31 on duty and a 33 for back up and for off duty about all the time. The sig 239 was hard to sell I admit it was like all sigs in that it was wonderfully accurate and it was easy to conceal. But the 33 is acceptably accurate (3 iches at 25 yards instead of 2 for the sig) and it holds 10 rounds with the stock mag and 12 with the LEO mag. I will never give anyone a hard time for chosing a sig however they are a quality product.

Thanks Guys!!! Bad trigger, huh!!! The P5 is pretty heavy, but managable. I still can't put the first DA shot on paper, though!! I still want to see the P6.

Denfoote:

Knowing how much you like the P5, you've got to try the P6/SIG 225. I actually find the grip on the SIG to be even more comfortable than the Walther's. And as far as trigger's go, I love my 225's pull. Awsome pistol.

By the way, I got mine with nightsights and K-Kote for a little under $600.

I've attached a pic, comparing my 225 and my CZ75 PCR Compact. Virtually identical in size. What you can't tell from the pic is that the 225 is a bit slimmer.

Take care. Marko

P.S.: Denfoote, I've got another hi-cap Mak on the way. I'll give you the rundown on it once I get it. BRS discovered it languishing away next to a minty SLR 95 AK-47 in a rural hunting shop in PA. Both are now gone...

I love my 239! This is my carry gun - most comfortable gun I've owned, both to carry and to shoot. Wonderfully accurate, too.

My current "only" SIG is my P225/P6. The P225 has always been my favorite SIG, and there's not a handgun out there which fits my hand equally well. The P225 is somewhat of a sleeper in the US thanks to the American shooter's general dislike of single-stack 9mm pistols, but those who try them generally like them to the point of preferring them over other SIGs.

The trigger on all the P225s I've shot and owned was always SIG-typical, smooth DA and decent SA. A P225 with a crappy trigger is atypical, and I would not let it keep me from buying one...there are plenty of gunsmiths who can fix trigger pull to what it should be. The P225 makes a great carry pistol, and they are very accurate out of the box. The test target of mine shows a 1.5" group at 25 meters, and I was able to shoot a 2" group at 25 yards last weekend off-hand without too much effort.

I have both a 226 and 225. The 226 has the smoothest slide action I've ever encountered and the trigger is very responsive. The 225 fits my hand perfectly and both have functioned flawlessly.

My first Sig and first .45 acp was the P220. It has done everything I've asked and more. Awesome gun. Completely reliable, points well, doesn't jam (except with my bad reloads), and is extremely accurate.

Can't understand the complaints about the trigger. Maybe I'm not as sensitive as some guys. :) I even like the trigger pull on my SKS. :D Of course I don't do any slow firing or competition. Just having fun.
