SIGpro 2009

I am hesitant to post this, because I know the SP 2009 is not a very popular gun, but I was wondering if anyone had any input on it for me in terms of quality.

I have read some posts that have given good reviews, and some that have found fault with the frame, but many state that it is just not as good as the P series.

I guess I don't expect it to be because it is ~ $200 less than the 228 and $250 less than a 9mm 226 in my area. So do you think it is a good buy? Or are the Ruger P95 and Glock 19 better guns for a $480ish price tag?

Thank you-
tommy

If you like it, and more importantly if you want it, buy it and shoot the heck out of it.

Guns cause crime like spoons cause Rosie O'Donnell to be fat!

I hunt, therefore I am.

I own the sigpro in 357sig and love the gun. i just wish i bought the 40cal vershion so i could get the 357sig barrel they dont have it the other way! i own the 357sig but cant find a 40barrel, but i love my gun to death shoot very well and has been on my hip. i have had it close to 7 month now and its great.

I have the sig pro SP2340 in .357 SIG. It's a great gun, SIG quality all the way, and probably the sturdiest polymer gun on the market. Never had a problem with mine, and it's as accurate and fun to shoot as any SIG I've owned. The price is right on the sig pro, and you get an excellent gun for the money.

I second the above posts. I have the 2340 in 40. its top quality. Ive run about 2,000 rounds through mine with no problems. To me its the perfect gun. The only thing i would trade it for is (the gun ive always wanted)a sig P229. The sigpro's trigger is better than any trigger sig has ever made. Its long, yes. but its so damn smooth it feels like its gliding across an ice cube. (if that makes any sense)

I never second guessed the sig because...well. its a sig ! We all know sig dont make junk !

Get it...if you dont like it let me know and ill buy it from you.

I have a 2340 in .40 S&W, and it's a fine gun. The cost savings are due principally to lower manufacturing costs related to the nature of the materials (polymer vs. metal) and molding vs. machining, and not quality.

Personally, I've found it a bit more difficult to shoot as accurately as I'd like relative to my Sig 226 and 229 (have both .357 Sig and .40 S&W for both of those guns), but for me it's a matter of getting comfortable with the grips (the hard plastic one is a bit too small for my hand, and the soft rubber one is a bit big and with very poor ergonomics IMO). I bought it for a general house/car gun because of the durable frame, resistance to corrosion while being lugged and lain around in various places here in the humid south, and for the availability of light accessories for the built-in rails on the frame, and I've not been disappointed. My only suggestion is to consider the 2340 if you're not too tightly fixed on the 2009, as the ability to change .40 and .357 barrels makes it a more flexible gun (BTW, house, Ultimate Outdoors has the barrel you're looking for at http://www.ultout.com/barrelschoketubes.htm for $133). I've also heard rumors that an aftermarket 9 mm barrel for the 2340 is or will be available, but I can't confirm that.

Early Sigpros had a few teething problems. The ones now are nice. The triggers are much smoother and to me, the gun feels like a Sig and doesn't have the plastic feel. Even though the price tag is lower, don't think of it as gun that's not quite a Sig.

The ones I've shot are just as accurate as a P-series with similar handling. I'd rather get the Sigpro in .40/.357Sig and get a P226 or P228 in 9mm because you can get 13 and 15 round mags for those; you're stuck with 10 with the 2009. Glocks have greatly risen in price yet when they first came out they were cheaper in price than the others but they were/are a good gun despite the price.

Try it. If you like it buy it.

I think part of the issue is that the controls are different (different size/place/shape) than the P22x series pistols. So, comments from SIG "classic" fans who don't like the pistol probably only mean "it isn't the same as what I'm used to/what I like" rather than "it isn't any good." Plenty of people like H-Ks...I don't for the same reason the SIGpros don't float my boat, but that's my personal preference. If it works for you, don't listen to the nay-sayers.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

My two friends that got me into shooting own (1)a glock 17 and a (2) SIG 228. From what I understand these are two outstanding handguns so I consider myself very fortunate. I saw the SP 2009 as a sort of "best of both worlds" - but some of the responses in past threads had concerned me. I'm glad to hear that it may have been a matter of "not the same" rather than "not well made".

KOG, you make a great point about the mag capacity - I do want a 9mm though. I don't suppose civilians will ever see more than 10 rnds in their sigpros. :(

Thanks again,
tom

Good point, the sig pro is indeed "the best of both worlds". I see it as a Glock for traditionalists, combining most of the great Glock features such as durable and light polymer frame with the best P-series SIG features, namely the DA/SA trigger and the outstanding accuracy.

Tommy,

Like Bob Marley said, "get up, stand up, don't give up the fight." If we vote, organize, and give what we can to pro-RKBA organization useless laws like the mag capacity ban might get repealed.

You'll like your sig pro. It's a great pistol. Like others said, it combines DA/SA with a polymer frame.

So many pistols, so little money.

All I can say about the SIGPRO is WOW! Boy was I wrong to judge so quickly! I know that it is an unpopular gun...for now. But I got a chance to shoot and handle one and man has it changed my opinion towards it. I am one of those loyal Sig classic guys who did not really pay attention to it nor cared for the Sig Pros. I am currently out in the market for another Sig but in 9MM. My choices were the P229, P225 or P239. I wanted something smaller than the full sized classics like the P226. I read some real excellent reviews on this gun and if you check it out and read, you will understand and know how good this gun is. It is built solid and very reliable and accurate. And the dampening of the recoils is great. As you will read on some of the reviews I will post the site for, this maybe the best polymer pistol yet. They compare it to the P239 and P229, Glock and Hk. And the Sig pro wins in alot categories and many reasons. I shot about 50 rounds from a SP2340 .357sig and man it was one sweet shooter. That only means that the tamer 2009 in 9mm will be even better. It is a polymer pistol so its quality has not been noticed yet since few have tried it out. But I would not doubt it if the SP2009 is my next Sig purchase. This gun will surely be known sometime soon as it gets high reviews and more venturing from people to try it out. Remember that the Glock and Hk started out slowly too and no one cared for them at first. People soon picked up on it and BAM!
