Sights or no sights?

Ill be buying a modern 22 pretty soon and Im torn whether or not to get a rifle with or without sights. I have 0 experience with scopes- If I get a rifle with sights will a scope usually peer over them or do the sights often need to be removed? I might end up getting a scope later is why I ask

Buy the gun you want. If you want to use irons, and the gun does not come with them it is not nearly as expensive to add them as many think. If I liked the gun I wouldn't worry about it either way.

If you are going to use a scope iron sights usually do not cause a problem. Some guns my not work with some scopes unless you remove the rear iron sight.

There are scope mounts available that are hollow or "tunnel" shaped where you can look though them and use either the iron sights or the scope on the same gun.

Please, do not waste your time with see thru mounts. They should be illegal to sell. They put the scope up too high to use effectively and make it almost impossible to use the irons. Basically they are the worst of both.

If you want to be able to the irons quickly as a back up then invest in quick detachable mounts.

If you can get it with iron sights that do not interfere with the scope I would. You may never use them, but if you want or need them then they are there.

On a .22 its not likely to be an issue. But if the scope dies for any reason you still have a usable gun.

However, I did carry a 7mm Rem Mag for years. If you have to deal with a bear in the bush or dark, a scope is not going to do you the least bit of good.

For that they worked well and while I had to reach a bit to see, it, but I never had a problem doing so.

Depends on your shooting. Personally I hate open sights. Just a fact of life. Scopes are so much better across the board at such a minimal cost that there's just no reason for me to even mess with open's. So I perfer rifles without open sights on em mearly for the looks factor. If one doesn't care about looks then then there is no reason to not have em on a gun. It's not like it hurts the function to have em. Just looks like crud IMO.

I can speak from experience that the two biggest contenders being a ruger 10/22 and a marlin model 60 will allow a scope without the irons interfering. very few rifles will require removal of the sights to allow a scope.
