Sightron Scopes

Anybody have any experience with the Sightron line of scopes? I had my heart set on a Leupold for Christmas but the wife has informed me that the $600-$700 I'll need for one isn't going to be available. A gunsmith recently told me that the Sightrons are nearly as good as the Leupolds and 1/2 the price. Needless to say, I'm skeptical. BTW: I'll be looking for a target scope w/target knobs for long range shooting. Thanks.

Mesa, this is a Sightron 4-16x42 mil-dot reticle on my 700PSS. Not as expensive as a Leupold or Nightforce, but very clear, good clicks and resetability on the target turrets, and has held up very well to the .308 Winchester. I consider it to be an excellent match to the PSS for accuracy purposes, and will probably buy two or three more for other rigs in the near future. I bought mine through Cabela's, but other distributors now carry them.

I have a Sightron SII 3-9x42 on my .270 and really like it. Like I said in another recent post, very little has been written about these scopes in most of the gun mags, even scope review articles that do include them don't give them much more than a short paragraph (but they don't spend much on advertising either - go figure.) If someone was looking for a scope for a hunting rifle, I would recommend the SII over a Leupold VariX II. Haven't had the chance to use one of their target scopes, but if the quality/price is the same as what I got, they will be well worth it. Check out their website http://www.sightron.com for info on their different models.

I had two Sightrons a couple of years ago. One I purchased, one I got as a replacement. Neither had acceptable resolution past 6-7X, but were blurry and out of focus. I found their customer service to be on the same level as their product - shoddy. I'm aware that lots of guys like them, and they must be better now or they'd be out of business, but for inexpensive, I'd go with Swift instead. Or Bushnell, Weaver. Never Tasco or Sightron!
