Sighting in a 30/30

Went to the range this weekend to check the sighting on my Marlin 336 with a 4X scope. The 100 yard lane was busy and had people lined up waiting to use it. So I sit down at the 50 yd. bench. Fired 3 shots each of Remington and Winchester 150 grains. All shots hit pretty much point of aim (+/- 3/4" left, right, or high).
My question is this: where can I expect the bullet to hit at 100 yards?

Probably about an inch or 2 high at 100. Just about perfect. With a scope, you'll usually find your bullets a little low at 25 yds, a little high at 50, a little higher at 100yds, just about dead on at 150, and probably low at 200yds. Nevertheless, it's always good to shoot at those distances and confirm.

Dittos with Poodleshooter. If you can sneak a look at a Sierra reloading handbook, check the external ballistics tables. They'll give the high/low/zero for a 150-grain bullet at 2,300 ft/sec (among hundreds of other combinations).

The Guns and Ammo Annual Buyer's Guide has a pretty good chart in back that details ballistics info for most commercial loads. Check your newstand.

Tell us what you're shooting (if it's factory stuff), and I'm sure someone here could look up specific ballistics for that load.

Here's some info for you. As you can see, the two loads are pretty comparable. The .30-30 cartridge doesn't shoot quite as flat as say a .308 or a .30-06, so to zero at 200 yards, you'd need to be hitting about 3.5 inches high at 100 yards. A lot of folks zero a .30-30 at 150 yards though--since they don't plan to make longer shots with this rifle. In fact, if you look on the web sites for Remington and Winchester, you get figures for 150 yard zero--not 200.
