Are all novak sights a glow in the dark sight, I bought a S&W 5906 with novaks green dot sights, but I thought the dots were awful small, are these a glow in the dark sight, these are my first experience with these sights:D. terry

They make both Tritium night sights and standard sights. Night sights typically use a Tritium vial which is a small amount of radioactive isotope of hydrogen. This normally has a 10 year half life so if the sights are around 20 years old they will have very little glow to them.

If they are newer sights, you have one of their standard sights.

Are the dot size the same? How do you tell the difference in the two if the night sight is dead? terry
Do the dots look painted on or does it look like a glass cylinder pressed into the sight? Thats probably the easiest way to tell short of calling them.

They look like painted dots with a close look with a light, so for night sights I will have to replace both sights, right? terry:D

Some people only replace the front sight with the thinking that if you are in an actual SD situation, you're only gonna be looking at the front sight at best... more than likely point shooting.

I personally changed my dim Trijicon sights on my Glock 23 with a set of Meprolight Tru-dot for $60 (front/rear). I like the 3 dot alignment.

So do night sights have to be in light every so often to charge them? And how long do they stay charged without light? terry:D

No you're thinking of Phosphorescent paint. With Tritium you don't have to "recharge" it with light. Tritium is a radioactive material that'll glow constant for 10-12 years before noticing some dimming.

Night sights usually look white during the day. They paint a white ring around the glass Tritium vial.
