sight for a springfield 1903

I just got a 1903 Springfield back that I had left in Alaska in 1974.
It has the cut for the Pederson device and the original stock has been
sporterized. When it was returned it was missing the sling and
the front swivel and the rear receiver sight. I can't remember, but
I think it was a Redfield. The receiver is drilled and tapped. The
hole spacing is .625 c/c. Where can I get a replacement sight
and at what cost?

Any help will be appreciated.

I have forwarded our post to my brother.

He is pretty deep into the 1903s and will see if he knows.

From My Brother:

Not sure what the Redfields hole spacing is but likely the same as Lyman and Williams. I have a Williams and the Lyman 48 that came on the cabelas gun. I haven't had or know the market for the Redfield sights.

This was posted over on the CMP forum...maybe it will help. Springfield is about 2/3 of the way down the list. Looks like the "70 ST" or the "70 SH" should fit if it was a Redfield.

rear sight for Sporterized 1903

The Lyman 57 is still available, as seen on my 1903 Springfield. I believe that the hole spacing is the same for both Lyman and Redfield receiver sight bases.

The Lyman 48 was a similar sight except was all steel with a longer slide. My 57SMET is a current production model with an aluminum base and target knobs. The rear sight was missing off of my rifle when I aquired it, the receiver was drilled and tapped and the stock was already cut. A steel Lyman 48 sells for as much as $300 so I setteled for a $100 new Lyman 57.

Both of my rifles were sporterized long before they had today's collector value.
