SigArms P220 pistol finishes???

A local gunstore has a NIB SigArms P220 in Ilaflon finish. Since SigArms doesn't produce the P220, or any other pistols, in this finish is it any better then regular old "blued"? Was there no demand for Ilaflon and that's why they dropped it?

Thanks!:)

We may have the first sighting of an Ilaflon-ed Sig stateside. I'm no expert, but I have read that Ilaflon is Sig's answer to Tenifer. Less of a finish and more of a metal strengthening treatment. You don't see any of the other models in this finish because it is soooo new here. Last I heard, it was only available for sale on pistols bound for sale in Europe.

teombe,

Ilaflon was labeled in Sig's catalog for about 2 years, then they dropped it. Either there were no buyers or it's not any better then blued.

Is it worth the extra $100 to get the Ilaflon finish instead of blued?

Jeez!   I can't believe I put my question under the wrong area!

1) Ilaflon is not SIG's answer to Tenifer. Nitron is, and it works quite well.

2) Ilaflon is a silicone based powder coating made by ILAG in Switzerland. When the new SIG owners took over, they decided to scrap the plans to bring Ilaflon to the US (probably because of production shifts), and decided to go with Nitron finished stainless for US production. P220/P245 production in Europe is Ilaflon finished. P220's made in the US are blued.

3) Is Ilaflon worth $100 more than blued? I don't think anyone knows (except maybe one of our European friends). Blued SIGs are known to rust when not cared for properly. Ilaflon is probably better in that respect, but we don't know if it wears better (although it reportedly does).

Good luck.

What's really interesting is that Ilaflon is originally a non-stick cookware coating

The problem is that it scratches very easily. (Not that I suggest frying an egg on your gun to check this.;))

Sooooo, is Ilaflon worth the extra money???

Also FYI, I called SigArms and asked about Ilaflon and they said it's imported into the USA for Law Enforcement in "bulk purchases". The store I've seen Ilaflon pistols at does have a LEO weapons section(mostly "intended capacity" magazined pistols) so that must be why it's available in their civilian section.
