Sig X5 lives up to the hype!

Purchased an X5 level1 and boy does this thing live up to all the hype!! Not only is the fit and finish just amazing, but so is the accuracy!! After familiarizing myself with the gun, I took it out and setup a small water bottle at 35 yards to see how hard it would be to hit. First shot I centered the bottle! So I took a few shots at a target and the groups were great. I decided to set the water bottle (empty of water now) back up to see if I just lucked up the first time hitting it. My first shot the bottle didn't move. Second shot same thing. I took one more shot with the same results. So I was thinking I just lucked up the first time. Well when I got closer to check the bottle, it had 3 holes in it!! It just didn't knock the bottle over because there was no water in it. This pistol is awesome and I recommend anyone looking for a high end pistol, this is it!!!!

I knew you wouldn't be disappointed. The X-Five/X-Six guns are pretty special. The "danger" of owning one, however, is the development of an expensive interest in high-end target/range pistols. :)

Anyone interested in an X-Five/X-Six had better move quickly (like now). No more German Mastershop pistols will be imported; the only ones remaining are already in dealers' inventories (or possibly awaiting distribution). Production will move to the U.S. next year, and nothing Exeter/Newington has done justifies any hope that they'll be able to produce something on or near the level of a German Mastershop gun.

SIG X-5

Agree with jaybigboy34, I've had a X-5 Competition and a X-6 L1 for almost a year. Both are outstanding handguns.:) At 15 yards the X-6 starts improving accuracy over the X-5. At 25 yards and further, the X-6 is superior. That being said, a few weeks ago I watched two guys shooting a X-5 a couple of lanes over from me. They were taking turns shooting a little bit at a time from the bulls eye. Cleaned it up without breaking the ring. Wow!:D

SIG X-5

AustinTX is correct. The MasterShop guns from Germany will be gone soon. I ordered a p210 Legend Super Target almost a year ago. It was supposed to be delivered in June; then they said the end of Dec. We'll see. I started shooting 45 cal. about two months ago, after a long absence, 60 years+. Bought two SIG 45s, a Target and a MAXX. Both are OK, but not in the same class as the Xs. Tried to get a MasterShop p220 X-6; it's 45 cal. It's on their webpage, but "discontinued". So, I've moved to HK handguns. Not wild about plastic, but the guns are awesome anyway!

I agree. I got an X6 this summer with my fingers crossed, not being much of a Sig guy but having heard such great things. My expectations were met and exceeded, and it's one of my favorite shooters. It just makes shooting so easy.

Sig X5 L1

The Sig X5 is definitely the best finished pistol I own and a joy to shoot. Accuracy is better than me and I'm a pretty good shot. I took it to the range last week along with a newly purchased Sig 226 Nitron. Both pistols are 226's but they are totally different guns except when it comes to accuracy. The Nitron at almost half the weight, shorter barrel, and other differences still shot as well as the X5. This was free hand shooting and seven to ten yards to target. My only complaint with both pistols is the trigger. The X5 is five pounds and the Nitron is 4.5 which is great for a carry gun but a little heavy for me for target shooting. I love my X5 but it doesn't get shot nearly as much as my Witness Limited in 9mm. The Witness comes out of the custom shop of Tanfoglio in Italy but I rate it second to the Sig X5 except for the trigger. All three are great pieces of work!

They're totally different guns when it comes to accuracy as well. Any decent gun is capable of putting every bullet through one ragged hole at seven to 10 yards if the shooter is up to the job. Try shooting the guns at 50 or more yards.

I've been wanting to get a X5 for a while now, and I keep hearing that the quality wont be the same. Any advice and which to go for? The Level 1 would be great but not cheap. Is it worth it compared to the All around/Entry/Tactical verisions of the X5?

I think it's worth it, since that's what I've bought. :D But I agree that you pay quite a hefty surcharge for the L1's adjustable trigger and Nill grips. The adjustable trigger is pretty incredible, but you'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth it.

If you want to get a less expensive X-Five, you should look at the Competition (1st gen.) or its replacement, the Entry (2nd gen.). Get the Competition rather than the Entry if possible -- the Entry comes with a fair number of MIM parts (though at least Sig in Eckernförde does a much better job with MIM than Sig in New Hampshire, which sources lowest-bidder, low-quality stuff globally). With the Competition/Entry, you still get two of the things that I think are absolutely indispensable in an X-Five: steel frame and SAO trigger. I don't really understand the point of paying for an X-Five and giving up either of those features. The Tactical has a SAO trigger, but it comes with an Al-alloy frame, isn't much cheaper than the Competition, and is more expensive than the Entry. The All Around has a steel frame, but it comes with the standard Sig DA/SA trigger, which is a terrible thing to pair with a Mastershop-built gun, in my opinion.

Do you have a credible source proving MasterShop will be moved to the US? From what we are told over here, it is all nonsense. Nothing more than a big mouther executive...

I didn't say that the Mastershop will be moved to the U.S. -- only that production of SIG Sauer pistols for sale in the American market will move to the U.S.

I have no idea what SIG Sauer GmbH intends to do. Seeing as they're currently under an export ban, though, it wouldn't be surprising if they ultimately moved all production out of Germany (or all production not intended for the German market).

I just got an early Xmas present, an X5 All Around. Balance and smoothness is impressive! Can't wait to take it blasting and seeing how close to 1-2" groups at 25 yards.
