Sig V-crown JHP ammunition

Hello all,
I was in my local big box store and found a deal on 10mm 180gr V-Crown JHPs. I don't know if they were mis-priced or just junk ammo but I bought a box/1000 for what I normally pay for range ammo. Does anyone have any experience with these as carry ammo? I see all the advertisements of the second core supposedly producing controlled expansion but what is controlled expansion. Limited? I can't seem to find any work up or review on this ammo. Is it bonded? Will it yield better performance than the Hornady critical defense I normally carry. All I see is "made in US", Sig/Sauer blah blah blah. Opinions please?

I keep 200gr .45acp in my 1911, i bought a box of 20 from cabelas for $18 which i thought was a decent price

As far as your 10mm goes, i believe it is a little watered down, but should work well for people defense. I have read some testing of various calibers and it seems it generally penetrates gel a tad shallow, the 200gr .45 going about 13 1/2"

The Sig V-crown has become my new carry ammo in 9mm 124gr. Lucky Gunner has a good video review of it. It costs half what HST and Gold Dots do.

SIG just established an ammo plant in the city I work in. A few months ago they came to our department range and did a demo for area LE agencies using gel blocks and firing through various media (denim, thin steel plate etc) using a variety of defensive ammo, not just SIG. We were able to see penetration depth and examine the recovered bullets. The SIG ammo performed as well as any and better than some. I failed to bring any of my HST rounds (what I carry in my off-duty .45) but from what I saw I would feel well armed with the SIG rounds.

I haven't used any of it but I friend of mine sells some equipment Sig uses for production. He told me a couple months ago they are very busy and have ordered a bunch more equipment.

I wouldn't say Sig 10mm ammo is watered down. Maybe if you compare it to some of the boutique ammo, or the older Norma ammo, then yes, it may be a little watered down.

If you want to compare to off the shelf production ammo, it is probably the best 10mm out there right now. It consistently chrono's at 1250-1275 out of a 5" barrel.
