Sig update.

Is disturbing how much I like this p229.
I don't even have a holster for it, so I haven't had a chance to carry it yet, but I think it may wind up supplanting my trusty g19 as my go to gun.
I don't even mind that it's a .40. If I'm doing really intensive shooting I still have the glock, and for the couple hundred rounds month I'm likely to shoot regularly is like less than a $10 difference for WWB.
Maybe it's that the Sig is a bit heavier than the glock, but the recoil seems about the same.
I don't think I've ever had a semi that I've liked fondling this much.

I still like my glock, and will probably keep carrying it on a pretty regular basis, but the Sig definitely feels "nicer".
Kind of like how I feel about my Buck hunting knife after getting a Bark River.

The only thing remotely close to a complaint I have is the wood grips are a bit wide (as I was told they would be), but I ordered a set of g10 grips from Greg Cote at a very reasonable price (along a couple $20 mecgar 12 round mags), so that problem should be fixed momentarily.
If mecgar prove to be as reliable as they're supposed to be, the mags are actually cheaper than glock. Go figure.

I also took some more advise I got from this forum and ordered a Kramer pancake/mag pouch, so by next fall I should have a pretty sweet set up.
In thinking I might buy a cheap slide holster so I don't have to wait the full 7-15 weeks to carry it.

Funny how much money I've managed to spend on a gun that cost me $0.

The P229 is a lovely handgun.

Try looking around online for a P228 parts kit. They come up on GunBroker a fair amount. These kits have old P228 uppers, with 9mm sights, and run flawlessly on a P229 lower with the swap of a locking block. During the P228-P229 migration, there were P229s shipped with P228 part numbers for barrels, locking blocks, etc. This means that such a conversion is a 'factory' setup, as it were, and as a result ought be (and mine is) 100% reliable.

P229 a great pistol, try feeling a P227 if you like 45ACP. IMHO most other pistols feel like junk in my hands, compared to a Sig.

The grips got here, and they're just about perfect. I like the way they look, and I like the way they feel.
I was worried that it would be a big change from the wood grips (which I mostly liked), but it's not. It's noticeable, but not distracting.
They seem to be a bit slimmer from side to side, but about the same front to back - which is what I wanted.

The mecgar mags - as I expected - seem to be identical to the OEM mags.
I now have 4 12rnd mags and 2 10 round mags. Eventually I'd like to have enough that I can load a full box, but I have enough for now.

Now I just have to wait for the holster to get here.
The folks at Kramer emailed me to make sure they had the right specs for the pistol - because of the round trigger guard is going to be an SAS molded holster.

I think you were the one who posted the link to the website, where they were selling the extreme p229 for $709.00.

Ended up ordering one to go with my Extreme p226, also love it.

However I did have an extremely stiff recoil spring. It felt very weird when it cycled and the slide would rarely lock after the first round. Tried this with both magazine and they would both it. I figured it was was a new gun, but after 100 rds and some +P ammo and thoroughly lubing the gun, it would still not lock after the last round.

Called Sig and they sent out a replacement recoil spring for free and its been running smooth since then.

I have a 229 but not shoot it much any longer, I never liked the high bore axis, and was never accurate with my first shot when shooting double action. In single action after firing that first shot it's very accurate and they're known for being tough as nails. Great pistol but I do prefer my Glock for accuracy. You mentioned you don't have a holster yet...I have a focus paddle holster and it keeps the 229 very tight and high on the waste...you never even feel it there. Great combo I think.
