I am pretty sure that my next auto will be a Sig SS p220 or the H&K USP Compact.

Which do you guys like and why?

Also, Has anyone shot both the SS p220 and the regular p220? If so, what is the difference and which do you like better?

John

The P-220 is one of my all-time favorites. Had two and love 'em. As for me I couldn't do the new SS...way to heavy. The lightweight alloy frame is one reason I liked the P-220 so much.
Can't comment on USP compact's but I did have a fullsize USP45 when they first came out...simply an awesome pistol. The P-220 and the USP45 fullsize,IMO, are among the best 45's on the market today. Good Luck, J. Parker

Try a 'search' on the topic. This topic comes up quite frequently so there should be plenty info on it ;)
As for my personal choice, I'd go w/ the USPc 45. Controls are where they belong and it just shoots so well in my hands :D

HK has a manual safety, Sig does not. (I like the safety.)

Sig has a non-plastic frame, HK is plastic. (I like the metal.)

Those are by far the biggest differences to me.

Both are good choices.

I prefer the Sig 220.

Sig's quality is near legendary, and the 220 is always ranked as a top performer.

Alan will be along shortly to further sing it's praise.

Never owned a Sig220 - had a 229. Good weapon.

I own a H&K compact in 357sig, & I prefer it over the Sig i use to own.

Preferences = I like a manual saftey - it can be carried "cocked & locked" grip angle suits me better, accurate and reliable.

12-34hom.

You really can't go wrong with either. I prefer the H&K as I shoot it better than any other handgun I've had experience with thus far (that is if you exclude my Ruger MkII .22).

I like the H&K because of the ergonomics, positions of the controls, manual safety, cocked & locked option, and how they shoot for me (very good).

I'd choose the one you like the best.

I am a huge Sig fan and have owned a few P220's, but I carry an HK USPC .45. I simply love this gun. I believe it is as reliable as a Sig, but it is lighter and smaller than the P220. I also like the decocker/safety on the HK. One thing I noticed about the USP was that when I broke it down to clean it after shooting a few hundred rounds, there was hardly any residue or gunk built up inside. I don't know how they stay so clean. Shane

Tough choice...

...I'd probably go with the SIG, unless CCW was a factor, in which case the HK would get the nod.

Both really nice guns.

Pretty near a toss-up but for one thing...

...that funky trigger on the H&K.

The P220 is light and oh-so-concealable with the proper leather. You won't be disappointed, and should you ever have a problem, the folks at SIGArms are light-years ahead in customer service.

I'm sure you mean the P220ST stainless, right?
I own a P220 and P220ST and have not owned an HK USP45, but have fired them quite a bit. And I actually like the USP also, but only second to my Sig, and cannot compare them to the P220. I had a tough choice of having to choose one and ended up loving the P220 over the USP. I once again had an opportunity to purchase a USP45 but in stainless. But then this darn P220ST came out and bought that instead. Glad I did with NO regrets! The simplicity of the Sig is great. And easy take down in 4 seconds or less. No need for manual safety cause Sig uses a patented firing pin block along with its 4 point safety. Almost impossible to accidental firing unless trigger is purposely pulled. For CCW, also go Sig. And plstic verses steel or aluminum. Unfortunately in my area, LEO's have to have a manual safety on their guns, so most want to carry a Sig but can't as a primary duty weapon. But a local Police branch has all turned to Sig Pros. But I am not too fond of the Sig Pros.

But Hk and Sig is a great choice and you will not regret either. Been in your shoes twice having to choose b/ these two and I am happy with my choices by going with SIG! But if I buy another .45, I am sure that it will be an Hk USP.

I own both. I prefer shooting the SIG (TFL name may have given that away :D ), but the USPc is a bit easier to carry.

If you have never shot a SIG, but do have experience with other semi's that have a decocker and slide release, you'll have to get used to SIG's placement of each. It is backwards compared to most other manufacturers.

One note: If you happen to be left handed, then the decision gets a bit easier. Unless you have grown up shooting SIG's (like me), they can be a bit unfriendly to left handers (like me). The H&K, however, can be ordered in Variant 2 (made for left handers). Can also be ordered in Variant 3 (R) or 4 (L) if you just aren't fond of manual safeties.

Either way, it will be hard to go wrong. Good luck.
