I'm looking to buy my first deer rifle. I want to go with something that's decent, but not too expensive. I was about to plop down the money for a Savage 111FCXP3. It costs $380 with scope at Wall-Mart. I figured it would be good enough for a first rifle.
But, I was in a local gun store today and I saw a Sig SHR 970 for $370, new. They had it in 7mm but they said that they could order it in 30-06 for the same price. Does anyone know anything about this rifle? Sig handguns have great reputations, but I haven't heard much about their rifles. I read Sig's webpage and it seems pretty interesting. They claim it can shoot 1 MOA out of the box and if you want a different caliber, just plop down about $130 for a new barrel and it just drops right in.
I'd have to put a scope on it, but that's not a big deal. The one that comes with the Savage sells for about $25 by itself. I'd probably just replace it anyway.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Are their rifles as good as their pistols?
