Sig Sauer sp2022

Does anyone have any experience with this handgun? It seems to be an affordably priced handgun. I'm considering it as my first handgun purchase if it proves to be a reliable gun.

Thanks in advance!

I have one. It doesn't see much action lately but I love it. It's been flawless. If hammer fired DA/SA is your thing, I don't think you could do any better for the money...and not much better for any price.

Just got one in .40 and took it to the range for the first time. Shooting Im sold. I think it shoots just as soft as my S&w 669 and is incredibly accurate. It is a full size gun. Its actually wider than the m&p 45c I used to own. The other thing is mags are expensive.

.40 S&W

I have a very nice Police trade-in chambered in .40. It is very accurate but I have not shot it in a few years. I'd like to have one in 9mm but can't justify another 9mm semiauto.

I have a 9MM SP2022 and it has been a terrific pistol. Over 4000 rounds though it with never a single issue. SWEET shooter too.

My daughter was looking for her first handgun (she's been shooting her grandmother's S&W mod 66 and my 1911\Walther PP, P38, Ruger 22 etc for a few years) and decided she wanted a semi auto. I compiled a list of acceptable (on the Cali approved list) handguns and set out having her try them out. We went thru fit checks, POA drills, ergonomic checks (the guys at the LGS probably hated us) and then shot her final 3 picks in 9mm and 40 cal.
She ended picking the 2022 in 40 cal. I liked it so much I ended up buying one also. Accurate and reliable as you can get. Come next year (after my wife settles down about all my gun purchases this year) I'll be picking up one in 9mm to give my old P38 a rest.

You get alot of negative comments on the composit frame but I don't see it as detrimental at all.

There's lots of info out there on it including a YouTube torture test of something like 5000 rounds fired thru it non stop without a hiccup.

Well you can't beat that...

The SP2022 is reliable by any generally recognized standard.

The French reportedly tested the SP2022 to the extent of 460,000 rounds before entering into a contract for 250,000 pistols for the French police and security forces. That contract was supposedly the largest single handgun purchase contract since World War II. The SP2022 replaced a licensed version of the Beretta 92 previously used by the French.

I purchased an SP2022 a few years ago and, at the same time, purchased a Beretta PX4 Storm. I shot the Sig much better but, crazily, sold it back in Sept in a "purge" of a few handguns. Fast forward three months and I realized that was a mistake, so I just purchased ANOTHER SP2022 in 9mm.

I've owned two P226's but, for me, the SP2022 shoots better in my hands. I've sold both my P226's as I don't see what it does that an SP2022 won't do for me better.

Not to be self-serving, but I have written about it a couple times in my blog in case you are interested.

One of the most underrated pistols out there. Great value for the money.
2k thru mine, no issues with any ammo, from cheap to premium.

I've got one in 40cal and it's a great gun. More accurate than I am and very reliable. I probably have close to 5-600 rounds through mine without issue.

Overlooked, sweet shooting, great trigger, and balls accurate. There is really no reason to not say yes to the SP2022. Oh, and it tends to be cheap. Academy here puts them on sale from time to time. Bought mine a couple years ago for $399 plus tax out the door! Seriously, it is a Sig in sheep's clothing.

Jason Bourne used one. Kind of hard to beat that ;).

I bought one used that I really liked. Unfortunately the previous owner had shot the snot out of it and the hammer was no longer staying engaged with the sear and the hammer was following the slide. I traded it and managed to get convinced in the process that I needed a "real SIG". I was a salesman's dream back then. The massive contracts it received help keep the cost low which make some people think it isn't quality when all evidence suggests otherwise. I'd get one again I just have other things higher up the list.

My wife purchased one and out of the box with just a quick clean and lube, the trigger was gritty and not at all smooth, not a fun first range trip with it for her. After did a full strip(there was some gritty material on all the springs, especially the hammer spring), clean and lube and it was a night and day difference. She is very happy with it now.
