Sig Sauer P238 question

I just picked up a new Sig P238. Haven't had an opportunity to shoot it yet. I noticed the barrel is not centered in the hole in the slide. It seems to rest on the bottom of the hole.

Is this normal?

Thanks,
Keith

Totally normal. That's how barrels lock up tight with the slide on most tilting-barrel semi-autos. The space above the barrel accommodates the tilting movement of the barrel during the recoil cycle.

Thanks! I'm kind of new to pistols. Pics on the internet seemed to show the same although there aren't a lot of straight on shots like the one I posted. Just wanted to make sure before shooting it for the first time.

They are wonderful little guns to pack and shoot, I have a bunch of rounds through mine and carry it cocked and locked in an inside pants holster.

Normal. The P238 is the best little shooting .380 I've ever owned. I have one of the older models with the thinner slide and it's never malfunctioned using a variety of FMJ and HP ammo in over 1,250 rounds.

Thanks for the feedback not only on my question but the gun itself. I picked up a new beretta 92fs a couple months ago as a home defense gun and for something to have fun with at the range.

I have been debating on something smaller for carry purposes. There are a lot of options out there. I was hemming and hawing a little on the sig 238 because of the cost. I went in to the local gun shop the other day and they had the two tone with extended mag, the hogue like grip, night sights and a sig laser for $525. Brand new. Got it on the spot.

Cool little gun. Can't wait to run a few rounds through it this weekend.

Just watch where your thumbs are when firing. The smaller the gun, the easier it is for you to slightly touch a slide stop or mag release without realizing it. This happens with some people on many small firearms and when the slide doesn't lock back on any empty mag or locks open early they think the gun is malfunctioning. In reality they're touching it and preventing it from doing it's job.

Take your time with it and try to shoot a decent amount with only the flush mag in and a two finger grip. I've owned and shot so many small two finger gripped semi-autos and revolvers over the years that I can control them just as well as if I had a full grip. The P238 has a 1911 manual of arms unlike the Beretta 92 so you'll want to practice flicking off that safety like it's second nature. Stay safe and have fun :)

When you get to love the 238 you should take a look at the 938 and the "wanting" will begin anew. 9mm in not much larger a package and shoots as easy as the .380.

I have the Sig P238 (two-tone) and it is my primary carry gun. Love just about everything about the gun and I consider .380 to be more than adequate for a CCW caliber.

The gun is very simple and easy to strip and maintain. It is a good shooter although I did find that I needed to practice to get tight groups as I am not used to shooting pistols this small.

Two of my carry guns: the P238 and the S&W Shield:

Well I wouldn't got that far. My 238 is much softer, even with hot reloads than my 938.

Inbound, In all fairness My 938 has G10 grips and an extended magazine which aids greatly in the control of the pistol....my comparison was using white box Winchester FMJ in both and the only science involved is my old brain reacting to the arthritis in my bod :-)
