Sig Sauer P224

Does anyone here own the Sig P224? I am considering purchasing one but would like to hear thoughts about concealed carry of this weapon. How you carry it, which holster, ease of concealment, comfort, etc.

Thanks for any input.

I don't own one, because I'm not really a fan. It's a slightly cut down P229. The P229 is a fantastic gun... but they are fairly thick. With as short as the P224 is, it's just... weird. To me anyways.

If you're looking for a gun in that size, I would probably recommend the P320 subcompact, M&P 9c, or Glock 26.

If you really think the thickness isn't an issue for you, or if you really want a DA/SA trigger, then by all means, the 224 is a well made gun. I guess my train of thought is that if I'm already concealing such a thick gun, the minor difference in grip and barrel isn't really a big advantage over having a full grip on the pistol.

The HK P30SK/P2000SK might also be good options to look at.

OK, thanks for your thoughts. Yes I do like the DA/SA trigger and the decocker. I read some reports that were unfavorable for the DAK. Because of that, I think I will stick with DA/SA which I am accustomed to on other Sigs. The P229 is my other choice but just seems too big for comfortable CCW. I am hoping the P224 is the perfect compromise.

Thanks again for taking the time to post.

No problem.

I sometimes find the P229 uncomfortable as well, but not because of it's grip length, only because of it's thickness... and the 224 offers no advantage in that area.

Perhaps look at the P2000SK. It's not a LOT thinner, but it is a little bit thinner. Might work better for you, while still giving you DA/SA trigger.

I'd definitely skip the P224 and jump into a P229. That's one of my favorite guns and SIG's.

I too love the DA/SA platform. I carry my P226 from time to time. That's been my go to gun. Most fired, carried, and trained with.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I really like the P229 and of the available renditions, the one I like most is the Extreme. I can't help but notice that the overall width of the 229 Extreme is 1.6 inches yet the P224 in Extreme configuration is only 1.3 inches. That seems significant to me and is part of why I began looking at the P224 to begin with.

I have the Extreme as well and I really like it. The G10 grips are quite nice - of course those can be added to any 229 after market.

I'd be interested to know where those measurements came from on the gun. The 224 was literally designed by taking a 229 and cutting 1/2" off of each end. I think that it might have a slightly smaller slide stop lever... perhaps that accounts for it? I couldn't say for sure.

Best of luck if you do pick one up! I don't doubt it's a solid, reliable gun. It just doesn't do anything for me, personally.

Love my P229

I carry it sometimes, when I can dress around it

It rides well in a Crossbreed holster (Great folks at Crossbreed by the way)

Love my M&P Shield

In a remora holster, I can arm myself in a blink (Great folks at Remora)

The P224 IS a P229, with a cut off handle. (for the most part)

My carry style dictates two different styles
