Sig questions

I've been keeping my ear to the ground for a p229 for a while now. Unfortunately, they're not common in these parts, and I haven't been able to justify the price of a new one.
So I this past week i was pretty excited when I was able to trade for one in .40. It's used, but you couldn't tell be looking at it.
I like it, but I'm not 100% sure what it is.
The box is marked w229-40-sp.
It says "elite" on the slide, but it doesn't have a beaver tail or a rail (both plusses in my opinion), and the reset I measured at 5mm (so, SRT I think).
It's really quite a beautiful gun.
Aside from being a .40 (which isn't a big deal at all) it's like someone custom ordered exactly what I was looking for, so I was just curious what any of you Sig guys could tell me about the model.

You have a bit of a frankengun, which is not meant as a pejorative term. Sig has so many models it is often hard to tell what you have. It is an Elite without the Elite frame. It was a special configuration which was offfered for a short time.

IIRC they have the Elite slide but use an SAS frame which does not have the rail. The fact it does not have a rail or beavertail is a big plus to a lot of older Sig fans. I personally love that look. The wood grips are nice if they fit your hands.

I believe it has the SRT. Gongrats!

I figured it was a limited run, or something odd.
When I googled the item number I seemed to get some conflicting descriptions. But I didn't investigate very much.

I vastly prefer the aesthetics of the frame without the rail. Based on the percentage of people that actually carry s gun with a light minutes on it, I don't know why something along these lines isn't part off their usual lineup.

I also have to say that, despite the fact that I'm so used to Glocks that it points pretty low for me, I definitely do see what all the fuss is about.
I've never had a semi auto with a action/trigger this fun to work.

The fact it does not have a rail or beavertail is a big plus to a lot of older Sig fans.

Huge plus for me as I have no use for a rail and always thought the beavertail was a little goofy. Very nice looking 229 dayman, I miss mine a bunch a will get another at some point.

Nice SIG!

Really, that is.

To all, a question: Is the slide blackened stainless steel?

Now, dayman, I do have a little remark about your photographic skills. Exposure, focus - pretty darn good.

Background, not so good! You may be the first person to put a crotch shot on TFL :D

Who sincerely hopes the OP will not get banned for that.....;)

Sig Nitrides their slides... Stainless steel, "Nitron" finish.

It is a good looking pistol.

One way to tell if you have the SRT or not is by the takeup after reset.

The SRT has very little take up after the reset. The standard trigger will have more take up after the reset.

You can also tell by looking under the right grip panel.

The SRT is a nice trigger, but does have a flaw that can cause function issues after you get a couple thousand or so rounds through it.

The little lever that is part of the SRT, can get the rear lower corner dinged up from the trigger bar impacting it during the reset. Eventually the trigger stops working as a SRT, and then a little later stops resetting entirely.

You can order "lever #9" from sig, and replace the current lever and not worry about it. Sig redesigned the lever about the time the 227 came out, and the 227 SRT kits came with the lever, but now you can get the lever separately.

One more question, and I may as well use this thread.
As far as holsters go, would I look for one that fits the SAS gen2 frame, or would any p229 holster fit it?

Excellent find!

Any P229 holster would fit, but an original (non-229R) holster would fit best.

Congrats on the new gun. The P229 is one of my favorites.

The wood grips look excellent but I suspect you may soon find that they are too large for your hands. They're really thick. If you do, definitely give the Hogue G10 grips a try. They are very thin and comfortable with good traction, but not too abrasive against the skin.
