This is a post on another list about
a 2340 that I shot. I save it so here it
goes:
I had the chance this weekend to shoot a Sig 2340 with Hi-Viz
sights. The later is a fiber optic tube (green) front sight with
a single bottom white little bar rear sight. It like the one
on the new SW 337 variant.
I fired 100 rounds. My impressions:
The gun was fine to shoot. Pretty much a standard
quality 40 SW. The grip was comfortable to me -
I have medium size hands. The DA/SA transition
was no big deal - of course, I might have lost milliseconds
in the transition. Firing two handed isoceles, I did
not feel like I was throwing the first shot away. It
usually went to COM of the Texas DPS smurf.
Recoil was quite manageable and not troublesome.
I do find the Sigs to be a little chunky for my tastes
but that's personal preference. It didn't offer anything
over my Glocks ( ha ha ha - manical laugh) IMHO.
I took the smurf test as this is a practical way for me
to compare guns (Smurf is the TX CHL test - 250 total pts.).
I shot 244 as my last 5 rounds at 15 yards wandered out of the
COM/head region. This was at the end of the 100 rounds
and I think I was developing a touch of a flinch. Also,
I was using my crappy left hand as support and shooting
with my right. I think the left was getting shaky.
So pratical accuracy was fine. However, one should not
be superimpressed as I shot the same score with my 642,
one handed with my right hand. Again the last five shots
wandered into the ol' belly.
The sight is very high tech but is it an improvement? I shot
the gun indoors and in the same lighting conditions as the
642. Lighting was average room level. I've painted the 642 sight
with some bright yellow.
I also decided to try my skill with my recovering left hand with
my Glock 26. It has the standard U and dot. I shot a straight
250. Interesting that the developing flinch was hand specific
has I shot the Glock after the other two.
So I wonder if the sight is a great benefit. Outdoors you would
have more visibility but with high contrast sights to begin with,
the fiber optic advantage may be marginal in a handgun. I do
like them on my shotgun. Thus, more research is needed on
this one.
The sight is not a night sight as you need to channel available light.
The issue is then when it is an advantage over normal high contrast sights.
For what it's worth.
