Sig p938 Mag release issue solved

My sig p938 was manufactured in july of 2016. Some where around 500 rounds in through the pistol, my magazine would eject during fire. I would have to slap the mag home and rack a round into the chamber to resume firing.

At first it happened every 2 or 3 rounds fired, and then it was every single round fired the magazine would eject. it happened with all my mags, and there was no possible way it was my grip. I had to dawn another sub compact to carry while I putted around the idea of sending into sig, which is not an easy task for me for various reasons. I elected to try a few things suggested on various forums.

WHAT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE: 1.Stretching the magazine catch spring. This made the issue worse and weakened the spring.

2. Another thing that did not work was purchasing a sig sauer manufactured "heavy" mag release replacement spring, it failed quickly even brand new.

what DID fix the issue The recoil was enough force on the mag catch spring to actuate it, and release the mag so I found a full size 1911 mag catch spring by wilson combat (part number 965-011-152 1911). I ground off two coils from the spring to fit it into the mag catch, using my wet stone and a small file. 350 rounds later and the issue has completely been solved. no mag drops during fire with this new mag catch spring in place. The mag release button is a bit harder to push now, but it is within reason, and I can still reload very quickly, and have saved my self the headache of sending it to sig

Just thought I would share this with yall in case any of you run into the same issue with your 938/238.

Glad you fixed it...

Never had that issue with my P938 SAS, but if I did, SIG would be shipping it to them, fixing it, and shipping it back. Don't understand how making them do good on their warranty is a hassle.

Well, that is certainly a creative solution. Thanks for sharing. Fortunately, my P238 has functioned flawlessly.

There have been a number of fixes, both factory and homegrown, for various P938 issues.
I've "heard" that there's a new mag release available to fix the dropping-mag problem, and remember seeing a description of how to tell the difference between the old and new spec.
The gun that I bought in February has none of the issues that I've seen reported on other, usually earlier, guns.

My fix for the Sig P938 issues, I bought a Kimber Micro 9. Not trying to start a war here, but I could never get the Sig to run reliably. My Kimber has, so far, been flawless.

I have both Sig and Kimber, the only malfunctions encountered are an occasional slide stop activation on the Kimber, never had a mag problem on either.
