Sig P320 RX (with Romeo Optic)

I'm pretty set on getting a full size P320 for fun, competition (which presently is limited to a local range's shooting league, but I hope will expand) and...yeah, fun.

I don't know that I want or need an optic. For the league I'm in, I certainly don't, although it's not disallowed...but nobody uses one there. I also don't want to have to buy another gun later if I choose to get a red dot.

So, enter the P320 RX. It comes with Sig's Romeo sight preinstalled, plus extra-tall iron sights to go with it. My question would be this:

If I get this model with the optic preinstalled, and wish to remove it, is that any more complicated than removing a few small screws? And, if I later reinstall it, will I have to be constantly sighting it back in? Or does a red dot optic remain sighted where it is so long as you don't turn any of the adjustment dials?

I suppose nothing about these questions is specific to the Sig, but that's the one I'm looking at, so I figured I'd be specific in asking.

(Price is another factor...best I've found so far is a sale at Cabela's for $800, whereas I can get the standard full-size P320 at a local store for just over $500. But considering the Romeo optic itself is about $300, it actually seems that $800 is a decent price).

OK, so I think I answered one of my questions from digging some more: yes, the Romeo1 optic can be removed pretty easily. However, Sig does not include a cover plate to cover the screw holes when the optic is taken off. I can't find anything about whether one can be ordered or otherwise procured.

Is there any harm in using it without a cover plate? Would something as sketchy as a piece of masking tape over the mounting holes work OK? My only real worry would be debris accumulating in the holes and possibly damaging the threads.

Can't find anything about whether the settings on the optic will be affected by removing and reinstalling it.

Hmm. Since the gun comes preset to have the optic co-witnessed with the iron sights, I suppose I could resolve the entire dilemma by just NOT turning on the optic when I don't want to use. My goodness, that's a stroke of brilliance, right there.

I'm having a great discussion with myself here, aren't I? :)

Anyways, I believe some competitions that don't allow optics, don't allow them to be installed at all...true?

I have a 320 rx and it is a great pistol. The good thing about the 320 is you can always buy another top end without the scope of you don't want to mess with taking the optic on and off.

Where can I buy just the slide? Few questions:

Is it easy to shoot with just the iron sights when the optic is installed but not turned on?

Is the optic easily removed? Does reinstalling it mess with it's alignment?

I've never removed the optic. Sights are easy to use w the dot sight installed. The tall sights are fine. I don't think you can buy just the slide, you have to the kit which includes barrel and mag.

I'm clearly over thinking this. I can just turn off the optic if I don't want to use it :)

If you have no plans to compete in a limited class or no optics class you are right, you're over thinking it. It's a fantastic pistol, I recommend the 5" if you are going to target shoot. I have a full size rx and a compact. I got lucky on the size, the trigger is excellent no work required. The compact is nice too but a bit heavier. Gray guns has some good triggers if you are looking for something lighter. You won't regret the purchase.

I'm not interested in a manual safety, but I've seen photos online of P320s in various sizes with thumb safeties. Are those something people are ordering afterwards in conversion kits?
