Sig P290rs 9mm?

I'm getting mixed info regarding the empty weight of the Sig P290rs 9mm. The sig website says it weighs 16-17oz. I see youtube video, and written review online where people are saying it weighs 20+ozs.

Did sig lighten the weight just recently,or what?

Been a while since I looked but I think the Sig website gives the weight of the now defunct .380 version which was lighter. My 9mm 290rs runs about 20.5 ounce with an empty mag and around 23.5 ounce loaded 6+1 with 115 grain ammo.
By the way, I really like my 290rs better than any micro 9 I have considered or tried. I think it is a real sleeper. A solid choice, especially if you like DAO snubbies.

The 290rs is smaller than the Taurus PT709, S&W Shield or Ruger LC9 right? I thought about getting the 290rs, but the grip just seemed too short, the slide too thick and the gun just seemed too heavy for what it was. I do hear good things about it though.

I wish there was someone on here that just bought a Sig P290rs,and that has a digital scale to weigh it unloaded. That would be awesome!

I love my 290rs, the weight of it is actually what makes it nice for me. It's a compact 9 that I could shoot for hours with great accuracy. You won't be disappointed if you buy it.

All published specs when it first came out said it was around 20.5 oz. I don't have a scale but it does feel about right when holding mine (it feels to weigh about the same as a steel framed .38spl J-frame). It is pocketable, but a bit heavy for all day pocket carry. That's fine since guns this size are a bit big for pocket carry anyway (they are perfect for dropping in the pocket for a short trip). IWB, this weight can be carried all day in complete comfort, you barely can tell it is there at all. So, it works just as well as the other guns in its class that are a few ounces lighter. Yet, being a little heavier than the others, you can comfortably shoot it all day at the range so you'll likely get a lot more practice with it, and thus be more accurate with it. It also allows faster follow up shots to the lighter options. I have both a SIG P290RS and a Kel-tec Pf-9 and guess which one I'm selling...

Without the digital scale you requested, I can tell you with certainty that an empty P290rs chambered for 9mm and with a six round empty magazine in place weighs more than 20 ounces and less than 21 ounces. Actually pretty close to 20 1/2 ounces. Loaded 6+1 with 115 grain ammunition it weighs just over 23 1/2 ounces and less than 24 ounces. The grip is indeed short with the six round magazine in place and for me I prefer the slightly extended grip plate rather than the completely flat base that is also provided. It gives me a better two finger grip. I probably shoot the gun a little better with the eight round magazine which gives me a full grip but not enough better to be concerned about it. For its purpose, I find the pistol easy to shoot and score hits with. I was a bit lukewarm to it at first but it has steadily grown on me and I now believe it is a woefully under-appreciated pistol whose virtues are ever so slowly becoming realized by shooters. Your mileage may vary. I love mine enough that I purchased another.

Quite a few newer Sigs can be hit or miss but the 290 I bought for my wife has been a peach. No idea about the weight but it fits in my back pocket quite comfortably.
