sig p239 use for lefties?

Is a Sig p239 conducive to use for lefties? I notice that the
controls are all on the left side. Has any lefties handled any
of these weapons?

I think the military covered this in their research for a new sidearm and found it to be a non-issue. Sig ended up losing the contract due to the cost of replacement parts, IIRC.

Now, just because the military claimed it was a non-issue doesn't mean anything. The way they evaluate gear is beyond comprehension. The Virginia State Police have been using Classic Sigs for years with no public record of dissent from lefties that I'm aware of. In fact, since the State boys went to Sigs many local LE agencies have switched to them as well.

But common sense would indicate that the Sig is definately a gun for a right handed shooter.

Best thing to do would be to go to a store that has a Sig in stock and play with it. Different folks have different sized hands, so what works for one person might or might not work for you.

I'm a righty, but have manipulated it a bit with my left hand. You'll have to hit the mag release and decocking lever with your index finger. To lock the slide open, it's probably best to put the meat of your right hand over the rear of the slide, draw it back, and then use your right thumb to push up the slide stop. The slide stop on the Sig is the rearmost lever.

To release the slide during an emergency reload, you'll probably want to just pull the slide back, rather than using the slide stop.

As a lefty, I found my Sig 239 difficult to reach and work that all important "decocker". For a defense gun it's a liability.
I switched to Glocks and Rugers (ambi-controls).

Slab I am a lefty and have carryed SIGs for years, depending on your hand size you should not have any trouble.i find its quicker for me to operate the mag button and decocker with the trigger finger than it is for a right handed person ,The only down side can't reach the slide catch lever, have to use the sling shot method

I guess common sense ain't so common.

I'm left-handed and I carry SIG Sauer pistols more than any other make. I can manipulate the magazine release and decocker faster with my left index finger than most right-handed shooters can with their right thumb. (I can also manipulate the slide release lever with my left index finger, though many left-handed shooters find this difficult.) The hard part for left-handed shooters is finding high quality holsters. Right-handed shooters can walk into most any gunstore and find a good holster hanging on the wall. Those of us that are in our right minds must have a holster special ordered.
